My son shot a 315 in boot camp. He qualified as expert. How hard is this? Do most recruits usually obtain expert?

Pretty hard in boot first time, especially without prior shooting experience and sometimes even with.

When I was in Basic it seemed like the people who had never fired a weapon were better shots.

I was Army but I'm sure the qualifications are the same for all branches.

Less bad habits, I guess. I never shot better than 'sharpshooter'(army version, medium score). I shot expert on the 203, but it's pretty easy.

Also, he shot pistols before with me but not once ever did he shoot a rifle. I bought him an AR-15 for graduation/Christmas. He graduates in 2 weeks.

I got sharpshooter in Bacic, missed out on expert by 1. I made expert after Basic.

No, that's really good in boot especially because all of the rifles are fricked up. I had to do some major adjustments on both my front and rear sight when I first qualified. After that its pretty much all about the breathing.

I shot expert on paper before, but never on pop-ups. Course you can cheat on paper, and not take the 200m shots.
Yeah, 203 is the grenade launcher and it counts as a hit if it is within 5 meters, judgement of the cadre. Pretty easy. I had never fired one before, and got a chance to qual due to extra rounds(I was unit armorer, so I had to go to all the ranges) and hit expert first try. Super easy.
