With all the job openings in college football this year, why was Jim Tressel not given more consideration? The show cause deal is a factor I know but would mainly affect the school during the first year would it not? Petrino found a place, Butch Davis was considered. So why not Tressel??

I believe the NCAA placed a show-cause restriction on his employment at a member institution. This makes his hiring problematic at best.

I hope never. All of my Ohio State friends basically liken our situation to Jim Tressel teams. Great defenses...10 pound turds for offenses.

He's as crooked as a snake stick. Words out. He's a good coach, though. I'm sure he'll be back.

There is not an opening at LSU. His record as a coach on all levels is fantastic. The show cause thing is only problematic the first year. Just wondering why Petrino has a job and Jim does not.

Petrino was railing a hot consenting of-age woman, not that big of a deal, except for coverup and his family issues. Tressel did illegal, unethincal, horrible NCAA violations and then tried covering it up. He knew about it for years and lied continuously instead of doing what is right for the program. Not sure if serious, but are you REALLY wondering why Tressel isn't wanted ANYWHERE?

Weren't his players getting free tattoos?? He did lie about his knowledge but horrible NCAA violations?? Really?? Although minor or secondary, how many NCAA infractions has LSU been found to violate in the recent past?? But I will give you the coverup did him in. As did Petrino with Ark. admin. But Butch Davis was considered at I believe FIU was he not??

It's not the crime, it's the cover up.

Tress is/was a Top 5 coach in college football for years and years. If he wanted a job he could have one. Whos a better coach, Tress or Miles?

What Petrino did was strictly a moral issue while what Tressel did was more of a legal one. Cheating on your wife is probably just as bad as skipping out on taxes but you only go to jail for one of those offenses.

Tresses won multiple (4??) championships at Younstown. He won 1 NC at OSU and played in 4 NC Title games. He won 5 consecutive Conference Titles at OSU. You tell us. That is being in the hunt.

Frank Beamer won 13 conference championships and 7 of them were in BCS conferences. You don't think competition has anything to do with it? Ohio State had its way with the Big Ten and went the BCSNC undefeated against LSU and got blown out. Miles > Tressel

Oh and it's 3 BCSNC appearances and his only win was on a highly questionable pass interference call which allowed them to get into OT.

Competition is all relative. Put Tressel in the SEC with SEC athletes and I think he would have been as dominant as Saban has been. I think he had the best athletes in the BIG 10 and obviously dominated with them. Only one coach in the SEC is doing the same these days.

Bama is likely to extend the SEC streak to 7 straight. I don't think there is a grey area anymore when discussing dominant conferences and level of competition.

More than half the teams in the SEC recruit at an elite level.

Before Urban Meyer had a mental break down and left UF, the SEC had 6 NC head coaches. Most of them are still in the conference.

Though never officially "caught", The Sweater had a lot of smoke around him at Youngstown, involving players getting cars & other benefits. Several former coaches of his & coached against him do not have a lot of good things to say bout him as a person. The whole time he was lying & covering up the scandal at O.St. he kept a Bible prominently displayed in his office & would often give "lectures" on the Bible. And if you think the tattto scandal was all there was to it, go back & read Maurice Clarette's comments bout being paid more at O.St. than he was in pro ball. His rep is out there & most college insiders know bout it by now. To compare him to Nicky is ludicrous; as much as I don't like the man, there are no college coaches now doing what he's doing at bama. And this is the TIGER rant, fwiw.

Tress beat Miles 33-7 in Miles' final game at Okie State.

There was an article out a while ago about how Tressel ran his football camps. He would have a raffle and all of the attendees put in a few dollars into the raffle. The raffle was always rigged to get the top prospects the nice prizes such as video systems, flat screens, etc. That was his way of giving the blue chips a memorable experience.
