quote:

Bowe/Davis > Byrd, more reps Lafell, injured Doucet

it was just bowe

JR made davis

and that doesn't explain the HUGE gap in ypa and completion rate. it also doesn't explain why flynn threw picks 10 attempts faster than JR

rings are team stats

how many games did LSU lose with flynn at QB in 2007?

Jimbo went on Finebaum later after leaving LSU, and insinuated to have been handcuffed by Miles that day on the Plains. Said LSU should've won comfortably. Implied he'd have passed much more than Miles running into 8-in-box all day..

I'll never forget Miles comment on the stubbornness, stating that he thought LSU was so close to breaking one, as to why so many run plays inside the Tackles..instead of picking on the Frosh DB inserted in lineup fifteen minutes to Kickoff..whom was torched a few times.

He made a comment similar to thst almost word for word about the national championship game last year in a long espn article about prepping for this year's bama game.

Doesn't matter. B/c I feel like Flynn made the overall offense function better. And my feelings should count for something.

2006 LSU Offense: 11th overall and 6.63 ypp
2007 LSU Offense: 26th overall and 5.84 ypp

how did the 2007 offense function better? also, remember 2006 played a much harder schedule

He lost 2 games - Kentucky (inexcusable) and Arkansas.

Regardless of numbers Flynn was the glue and the calming influence that got the job done in the big games. Yeah, Flynn threw picks, but he rarely had negative plays - plays were we fumbled by his hand or lost yardage.

He brought us a National Championship. That trumps all that individual garbage in a team sport like football.

By your rationale Timmy Chang was better than both of them because his statistics blow them both away.

I accept that you have a bunch of numbers and awards to back you up. Flynn and Mauck, both guys that didn't get a sniff of any of those numbers or awards, have rings. They have results.

So, everything that actually says you are the best quarterback in the country is meaningless. It's all about how good your team is.

How many rings did Andrew luck and rg3 win last year?

How many did Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton manning, and drew Brees win in college?

How many did Bert jones and tommy hodson win at LSU?

Aj mccarron has been the best quarterback in the outcry the last 2 years, right?

quote:

JaMarcus Brooks is a living 30 for 30 story for all his personal accomplishments.

If they ended up making that movie, you do realize it would be because of how bad he failed in the nfl after being so good in college, right?

quote:

Statistics are for losers.

I'll let Johnny Manziel know.

2007 LSU didn't play the same quality of "big games" in the regular season compared to 2006 LSU

2006 LSU went on the road against the eventual national champions and on the road against another top10 team

Yeah, Flynn threw picks, but he rarely had negative plays

not sure if...serious

no, the team did, after a large number of lucky events occurred. he led the team to a 2-loss regular season in 2007...JR led the team to a 2-loss regular season in 2006 playing harder opponents

Can you please explain how 18/20 for 330 yards, 3 tds and 0 ints is dragging the offense down or whatever you called it?

2007 we scored 37 and 48 points in the two losses.
2006 - 3 and 10 points.

Also, how many overall points did we score each year?

No more misleading than overall offensive rank. Jamarcus ran it up against some crappy teams and disappeared in the losses.

Also, you know I just won this thread with the "points in losses" point.

How many 4th quarter comebacks did Russell lead in his career compared to Flynn?

Yeah, Flynn threw picks, but he rarely had negative plays - plays were we fumbled by his hand or lost yardage.

I'm not going to spend time looking up fumble stats because they are harder to find and you are wrong anyway.

But explain how interceptions are not negative plays.

He wasn't even the quarterback for the SEC championship game. For all we know that team led by him loses another game against an inferior opponent and doesn't even make the bcs game.

By your rationale Timmy Chang was better than both of them because his statistics blow them both away.

What major awards did Chang win? What major conference did he play in while putting up those numbers?

hence why i included the most important stat of them all: yards per play

Jamarcus ran it up against some crappy teams and disappeared in the losses.

flynn didn't even play in the SEC title game

quote:

not at all, especially with miles

re: Would Johnny F'in Fotball be a QB on LSU?

Its a team game. Which guy accomplished the most with his team? Who had the better results?

Look, I am enjoying the banter here. I realize we are not going to convince each other of our opinions. But the NFL test between the 2 guys is very telling. Flynn was better for the team. He won the ultimate prize, he was a smart kid, a straight arrow, and still has a career that is way way far from over. He will be a starter in the league for longer than JaMarcus Brooks was.

To the other guys mentioned, Brady, Manning, Brees, hell you can even throw Joe Montana on that list - yeah they didn't accomplish a championship in college, in comparison the true measure of greatness by NFL standards is jewelry. Dan Marino great QB, but without the jewelry, he is a step below all the others mentioned even though he statistically is better that several of the ones previously mentioned.

Its about winning championships.

Russell threw 6 more tds in 2006 than Flynn did in 2007. So now your argument is Flynn was the better QB because the team 2007 scored more rushing, defensive and special teams tds than the 2006 team?

Flynn 2007 starts: 28 or more points in every game
Jabarcus 2006 starts: 28 or fewer points in 5 games.

quote:

flynn didn't even play in the SEC title game

And we only had two offensive TDs without him.
