Question about losing a raise

In hindsight, this is probably the better board to ask this on.

Is there anything that can be done if an employee was told that they would be receiving a raise and then the company came back and reneged on the deal?

Let's assume that there is a paper trail

Thanks in advance

You- "I demand the company honor the raise commitment it made to me!"

Them- "Okay, sure, here's your raise. BTW, you're fired."

You- "Okay, thanks.... Wait! What?!?"

Figured that's what I'd be dealing with, but just was wondering if there were any other options

If the paper trail is a contract or employment agreement, it wouldn't be that easy.

I made an assumption, perhaps stupid on my part, that a company that gave someone a written employment contract would not be dumb enough to violate it that blatantly.

Simple answer, No. You're not guaranteed anything.
Louisiana is a right to work state, nothing is guaranteed. Not your job or your raise. Unless you're part of a union.

Well, what does the paper you have say? There are possibilities, even in a right to work state.

re: Question about losing a raise
Is this typical for management or was there legitimate reasons they couldn't honor the raise?

Do you think you would receive one soon, just not on the originally communicated schedule?

Did you do something to warrant not getting one after it was promised?

Go to your employer with the paper trail. If they balk at all, quit. A company that pulls stupid shite like that will soon frick you again.

I am thinking there is more to this story than we are hearing...

I'm sure there is. Unless there was a change in management or are some sort financial issues (ie- ability to sustain and increase salaries v. Liabilities, tax issues) with the company, something else happened to cause the boss to promise a raise and then not come through.
