exactly me too. I'm not unhappy with a salary in the 40s, but it's still not enough for me (single/no kids). I can't even imagine trying to make that salary work with a kid. Being able to buy/go whatever/wherever you want whenever you want = true happiness for me. With 75k, I could do whatever i want whenever i want.

So all those saying money can buy happiness, what's the flaw in all these studies then? Why do they constantly refute your assertion?

yep exactly, my goal is to make a 100k/year by the time i'm 30. So once, I got to 75k, i'd be ready for that next step up.

Yeah, where I live you couldn't get a loan for the median price home with 75k, so for my needs, 75k would be rough

Such bull shite. I make 25% more than that and I have to watch my spending. And my house is paid off. Taxes, insurances, food, fuel for four cars, boats and the like, house bills and my old lady's mall spending habit.

yea i can see that. Living in LA or TX, it would be great to make that. Also depends on factors: where you want to live how many kids you have are you married But being single, 75k would be sweet.

Well if you read the article it claims that living is alot more comfortable after the 75k mark. And after that 75k mark, it doesn't have much of an effect

somebody once said "money can buy you a jetski and have you ever seen an unhappy person on a jetski?"

I'm not rich, but I am comfortable. And I am much happier now than when i wasn't making much $. If you are struggling to pay your bills, and never have any extra money to go out to eat, go see a movie, buy some clothes you like, or take a vacation, it is harder to be happy. For me anyway, certainly not true for everyone.

A wise man told me long ago; "money can't buy happiness, but it can make misery more bearable".

And doesn't that seem to contradict the notion that money can buy happiness? Folks aren't putting any qualifier on that statement, thereby implying more money will always buy more happiness. Those are the folks I'm questioning.

Money can't buy you happiness but you can't be happy without it, either.

"Happiness", as it were, can be said to be achieved through the acquisition of something one was previously lacking. It is fleeting, however, because when a dearth of something is attained, over an extended period of time, the "happiness" we gained from such a thing diminishes, until we become "unhappy" with what we have and begin to desire something more, or something else. The starving man is "happy" with a simple meal, because it holds value to him by meeting a need. Give the man the same simple meal over a period of time, and he is no longer starving, thus his "happiness quotient" (HQ) achieved by "simple meal" (x) is diminished over time and repetition. HQ=x-t(time sustained)/d(desire for x) I'll work in other variables later, but in the end the things that once made you happy will make you unhappy without the introduction of new variables.

Good stuff. Reminds me of something I heard once: If a man eats ribeyes all the time, he'll love a "good" hamburger.
