What is your height Doldil? I'll just say this, having started at basically the same exact weight as you, I lost weight eating less than 2,000 calories a day. The magic number for me has been 1,300-1,800 calories a day. Also, make sure you aren't overdoing it at the gym. Many of the people posting in this thread have lost weight without doing a lot of exercise. Although that does become a greater part of it eventually. The most important thing is to get the eating under control first. Believe me, exercise becomes easier as you lose weight. Also, as Myth said, don't trust the scale as much as the tape. That being said, I know personally if I don't weigh every day I find it easier to lose control at the food trough without that accountability. (As i've done for the last 5-6 months...) Hope you stick around, there is a lot of support and wisdom in this thread. Also, it would be nice to have another Auburn fan around.

I'm 6'2- My goal for all of this isn't just weight loss by itself: the reason I got to the gym in the first place is because I want to eventually get in shape so I can learn to play Rugby. My workouts that my trainer girl at the YMCA have me doing is based around that as my goal, which means weight training and building muscle is an essential part of that. I don't want to just lose weight to be skinnier. I'm okay with being bigger, I just don't want it to all be fat and unhealthy.

Welcome doldil If I were you I woukd reduce the calorie intake. Keep it at a max of 1800. Keep in mind that as you lose weight your BMR goes down so you'll need to adjust that. Also don't count exercise toward your calorie deficit; its too easy to overeat when you do. Also, you can expect periods of no loss since you're working out so much. When you are sore you can put on water weight, and at the same time you could be putting on muscle. Know this: if you are truly eating right and exercising it will cone off eventually. Just stay patient. When you have a lot to lose, ya gotta keep your mind in a day-to-day thought process. Lastly, eatl lots and lots of veggies and drink plenty of water. I find that I always lose best when I'm eating a wide variety of vegetables and drinking a half gallon of water per day. I try to get 2 serving of vrggies at lunch and dinner, and 2 servings throughout the rest of the day. 363/258/250

What veggies are you eating if you don't mind? I'm absolutely clueless about vegetables. I hate them, thats pretty much why.

I hate most veggies so I eat lots of salad and raw spinach. I don't mind raw spinach, broccoli and cabbage. Hate them cooked.

Veggies I eat most: Kale Spinach Broccoli Asparagus Cauliflower Cabbage Brussel sprouts Snap peas Radishes Carrots Mushrooms Yellow squash Spaghetti squash Zucchini Cucumber Tomatoes (Roma and others. I know, technically a fruit but w/e) Celery Those are usually stocked in my fridge. I try to eat the majority of them raw but obviously not all of those are any good raw.

If you plan on doing it for life, have at it. Your diet is something you should plan on sustaining for life.

This is pretty much what I've done. I've changed the things I eat and the ways that I eat, turn out I'm still eating things I like. Just healthier. My weight's coming off slower then I hoped when I started, but now staying healthy long term is my goal rather than getting to my ideal weight.

I'm not a big veggie lover either. A pile of mushy steamed veggies is gross to me. However, I now love the veggies that I cook on the grill or roast in the oven. I chop the veggies and then toss them in olive oil and balsamic vinegar and seasoning then grill or roast. Talk about good! I've done these veggies so far: broccoli zucchini squash mushrooms onions bell peppers asparagus carrots green beans Oh and I'm back on the bandwagon: 142/140/130 I track my calories and exercise on My Fitness Pal. It works when I do it! I did lose 25 lbs on Weight Watchers 2 years ago. I've gained about 5 of that back in the last 8 months or so. Time to get serious again.
