| tactical.22 or 10/22. (Posted on 1/3/13 at 11:45 pm)
Looking into buying a good semi auto. 22. What is everyones opinion. My dad and i own 3 single shot 1900-1930 models, a tube fed semi auto from the 50's and a lever action tube fed. I was thinking about a mossberg tactical or a ruger 10/22. Ant suggestion or info appreciated.

Love my ruger 10/22, but I've never shot a tactical so I can't compare them

I'd go with the 10/22, but I'm not a fan of tactical stuff.

Tough call. Will it be for strictly plinking or hunting too? I have both and I still can't decide which I would choose if I had to.

I have a tactical 10/22. Best of both worlds. It's not hard to change the stock back to original

This if you re wanting a tac 22. It is built on the AR platform but all composite (light weight). Mosberg is a Moss 22 with arse ons to make it "look" tactical. 10/22 is still a nice chouice and accessories can be added to give it that tactical look good luck

LSUBrad, A stock Ruger 10/22 can do EVERYTHING a "tactical" 22 can do except for two things: 1. Provide an inexpensive platform for training in your centerfire AR. 2. Look really cool and tactical. If #2 is important to you, there are a host of aftermarket stocks and such that can be used to transform a stock 10/22 into a "tactical" lookalike. Most 10/22's costs a good deal less than a tactical 22. You could buy an inexpensive 10/22, buy the "tactical" accessories for a 10/22 and have less money in it than some tactical 22's cost. If #1 is not the main reason for a tactical 22, the question then becomes "How do you want to spend your money....on looks or ammo?" Only you can decide that.

I bought the Carbine and it now looks just like the Target tactical except for the bi-pod for a good bit less money. Same stock and barrel.

10/22 without a doubt. You can change it up all you want. But I'm gonna tell you from experience that if you ever have to shoot someone with it, having a wood stock will save you much grief. Media will report it as a "small caliber rifle" instead of "an assault rifle". It's total bullcrap, but that's just the way it is.
