Greek life is very big. Join a fraternity. Also, if you do business, go finance or accounting. That way, you might get a job

From a sophomore pre med student in a fraternity: All sec schools (excluding vandy, the new guys, and maybe Arkansas) are awesome. Been to parties/gamedays at UGA, auburn, and ole piss. Each place has its own thing, but I'm glad out that I'm at LSU and its awesome. Definitely the best choice for me

Agree that the OP should consider Accounting/Finance and do CIA program. Although the CIA program has a lot of suck ups, I've met some good friends from it.

There is no point in going to college right after HS if you do not join a fraternity. If you want to be able to wear suspenders when you graduate, go through rush.

LSU is about 15% Greek. But growing.

Pros: academics (depending on major) party scene football beautiful campus Cons: Huge school = poor teacher/student ratio OOS is expensive Don't go into business. Do engineering. Even if you have to settle for one of the lower tier ones like civil. The time I've spent here so far has been epic...if you don't know anybody down here, you might want to consider rushing your first semester. Even if you don't pledge right away it's still a good way to meet people. ETA: Traffic sucks until you figure out alternate routes and what times to avoid driving if possible. Crime situation is the same way. I've lived on Burbank since '09 and and have not had a single problem. But I'm also a beast of a man and jacked out of my mind so I pity the fool that would try.

Unless he goes to some tiny directional U, that's going to be a problem no matter where he goes.

Don't go because your whole family went there. Go because you really want to go.

Make sure you think long and hard about a future in Louisiana. There are a lot of great things about it, but the bottom line is that it's a state that doesn't value education. Also the degree doesn't really travel anywhere but Houston right now.

The hard truth, but this. Bama/Auburn is a better school, and you wouldn't have to pay out of state for a mediocre state school.

Pros: everything good ever Cons:.... Seriously, go to LSU. It's paradise. The rest of BR? Not so much, but you're coming from Birmingham so it won't seem so bad by comparison.

I would advise you go Petroleum Engineering if you want to work your arse off and make a shite ton of money after you graduate. If you want to make a decent living and work moderately hard but still have plenty of time for partying, go Finance and rush a good frat with lots of connections in your field. If you want to be drunk like a skunk and have daddy's money to fall back on, major in history and rush a big frat.

Alabama, Auburn, Texas(family moving to Houston when I graduate). OOS tuition wouldn't be awful cause I should get decent scholarship money. It's the fraternity thing that is so expensive

Challenge yourself and get out of your comfort zone. The biggest mistake I made was staying home because I had two buddies ask me to live with them. I made that decision instead of going to LSU and living in the dorms. I hated my time at KU until I joined a fraternity. Even after that, I still wish I would have gone to LSU. Biggest mistake I have ever made in my entire life.
