Maybe a more mobile (but a good pass first mobile, not a running QB) quarterback would help, too.

Billy, we need a QB, man.
Watching Bridgewater last night made me a little sick to my stomach, to be honest.

And FTR, JJ would have beaten Clemson. That was an email conclusion that me and about a dozen other passionate LSU buddies had via email post game. (we are not JJ lovers by any stretch)

Fix the offense and this all goes away. I think everyone would agree with that.

Bridgewater brought back memories of Rohan.

I take a Rohan Davey every year.

re: The LSU / Les Miles TV dramedy continues....

Certainly all very complicated, but what exactly do folks feel will push us ahead of Bama, Florida, TAM, Georgia and the developing Miss schools? They spend money, string recruiting classes and loyal fans. Auburn learned how fast things can change with the loss of an OC, the same thing can happen in reverse, improvement, with the addition of a dynamic OC. Everyone has plenty of good players, coaching will be the true difference down the road.

And being content with a program is like having an investment broker who makes you a nice profit for you but the guy serving your brother is killing it. Would you move your investments?

Ok, but what happened in the Bama game then? Mett has a "coming out" party so to speak.

Why were there 4 unnecessary trick plays?
Who went away from the pass?
Who went conservative while the D was holding Bama to five 3 and outs in a row?
Where did those balls go at the end and Mett was lighting them up?

It's not just a QB.

eta: by balls, I mean Miles who had sack in the first half going for stupid trick plays. When the game was real and LSU was winning, he lost his bravado.

For a few years GG has been a total idiot for criticizing Miles in any fashion. Several other media members have joined in (local & national) & they're crushed as idiots by the Miles gestapo.

I don't think I've ever seen someone trip over Godwin's Law as early as the 2nd sentence of the original post before. Congrats.

Needs a top notch OC and he needs to act as program manager and recruiter, otherwise, he is the best guy for LSU.

This is a good post by the OP. Pretty spot on for those of us that have been watching games since the 80's

Unlike some, obviously I'm not under the belief that such references automatically terminate a discussion.
Nice catch though.

But the points by Sho Nuff (great name) that it isn't all on the QB are valid, IMO.

Why is it always, you're a Miles-supporter or a Miles-hater. What's wrong with supporting the program and everyone associated with it. If Les Miles quit today, I would be worried, because I don't see a clear suitable replacement. I think his recruiting ability is better than anyone's I've seen. His gameday decisions can be questioned, but I watched both coaches in the SECCG do the same shite. That said, if he wasn't our coach, I won't be crying. My loyalty is to LSU, not a specific player or coach.

I just never understand why when someone defends the program, they are called a sunshine-pumper, Miles-lover. I love LSU football. The reason it's not as enjoyable now as it was 20 years ago is becasue we are winning. Trying to win championships is stressful at any level and in any sport. The stress goes away when you know you just need 6 wins to get to a bowl. Aanything over that is lagniape. I prefer the stress personally becasue it results in championships every now and then.

The program is fine. If you want to feel better about the state of affairs regarding the future of LSU football, hop over to the recruiting board and look at the class the is coming and the potential class for 2014. Both a sick.

quote:

As someone said yesterday, I believe....it seems like the reaction to the games & discussion of coaching issues has become more prevalent for some than watching the game itself.

I think this is completely accurate for those that want Miles gone. They are on here downplaying wins, and out in full force after losses. The worst part is, that players and recruits actually read this and all of it just hurts the program, maybe even more than the bad coaching calls.

re: The LSU / Les Miles TV dramedy continues....

Food for thought: LSU total offense rankings since 2008: 2008 55th, 2009 112th, 2010 86th, 2011 86th, 2012 76th. Note: 2010 was Gary Crowton's last year. To those who point to Miles' admittedly stellar W/L record, I contend that every team should strive to be the best on BOTH SIDES of the football. We are way better on the defensive end: 2008 32nd, 2009 26th, 2010 12th,2011 2nd, 2012 7th. Just imagine the W/L record if we just averaged around 35th to 45th on offense, certainly not an unreasonable expectation. I love Miles as a person and a recruiter and believe that he has a truly genuine interest in his players and that they love hin for it- great recruiter, great motivator, great "father figure", but his offensive philosophy is way outdated. Although it is said that defense wins championships, it seems that a lot of people think that a good defense goes hand-in-hand with a grind it out, "ball control" offense. I submit that there are very few teams that can achieve this because overall talent is fairly even, with Alabama being the most prominent exception. LSU has certainly NOT had such great offensive talent that they can just overpower everybody, especially higher-echelon SEC talent. Yes, we rushed for 258 yards against South Carolina, which was probably the highlight of the season offensively. The bottom line- in most situations the offensive scheme matters. Look at Oregon, which has a consistently top 10 offense- I believe it was top 5 the last 2 years. But Oregon makes its living on RUNNING the ball. They spread you out and run thru the gaps. On the other hand, LSU- especially on short yardage situations, usually "bunches up" with a 7 or 8 man line, zero or only 1 WR and QB, FB, RB. If you don't want the other team's defense to put 8 or 9 in the box, why not run a 3 or 4 WR set. In other words, the most effective way to run the ball is out of a " passing" formation- spread the field. You are automatically taking 3 or 4 men out of the box. That's how Oregon has been doing it for several years now, with great success.

It still amazes me that so many teams, college and pro, still employ old school football in short yardage situations. Probably has to do with many older coaches' "be tougher than your opponent, try to impose your will" philosophy. Anyway, I think that Miles primarily subscribes to this (outdated) philosophy and hope that he does hire a new OC, preferably someone LIKE Chip Kelly, Kevin Sumlin, etc. We've GOT to change the Offense. Sorry for the long post, it is my first post on TD.com. Will check tomorrow for any responses. GO TIGERS!

Well said.

It is what it is, we're led by an average head coach. We just have to get used to watching horrible play calling and stupid stupid in-game decisions.

The thing is we'll win 9/10 games every year (the talent is just amazing) so Les will keep his job.

This is going to be a long wait till he retires. Till then, I'll continue to support the hard working players and root for LSU and just 'hope' that Les goes to the NFL/retires or goes to Michigan.
