Which issues? They are making the same choice many kids make every year --- to leave college early to earn a living. Many that do that are on scholarship. Should a student have to stay in school 4 years on an academic scholarship? What about a scholarship or grant to a particular department? Does this also apply to players that leave the program to transfer to other schools or because they are leaving the sport or only to those good enough to play in the NFL (and thus are the most likely to help the team by staying)?

It's funny how many people think the OP's premise is ridiculous, but wholeheartedly support the NCAA's collusion with the NFL to lock players out unless they're 3-yrs removed from HS. Force them to stay 4 yrs? LUDICROUS! Let them leave after two? LUDICROUS!

So im guessing this thread is about Reid and Minter. Shows complete ignorance towards the OP. College athletes do not sign 4 year contracts. And lets not forget that a lot more NBA and MLB players are without a degree than NFL players.

How fast would a billionaire like Mark Cuban start a league to rival the NFL if they had these mandatory requirements? Not long at all...

I think they should have a minor league for the NFL and watch all the idiots frick their knee up the first year and end up working at burger king the rest of their life.

I kindof wish they had to graduate or be of age to graduate before going pro. I feel it's a waste of university funds to give an athlete free college that many will never complete over a student who will ultimately be a more productive citizen (note: I said more productive citizen and not make more money) than a football player or any other athlete. If they finish up in 3 or 4 years and have. Year or two left of eligibility they should be able to chose to stay or leave

Juniors, and worse RS Sophomores (why, Brockers, why?) leaving for the NFL is by far my biggest sports-related pet peeve. It shows a lack of commitment on the part of the player as well as a lack of caring about the players on the part of the NFL. I really think it would address a lot of issues if the league made a 4-year college degree and SENIOR classification mandatory in order to be draft eligible.
Fine. Then the school or NCAA must issue every player a guarantee of money in case of injury. An insurance policy of sorts.

So why should CFB players be held to a different standard? If they have enough talent to play pro football, what does being in college do for them. If that is their goal in life, then they should be able to pursue it as soon as possible.
It probably has something to do with the fact that most 18 year olds are not physically ready to play against 22+ year old grown men. More than any other sport, due to the inherent violent and physical nature of the game, it probably is one of the toughest transitions for an 18 year old versus a 20-21 year old would have. Those couple years developing in college are key. Of course you always have an outlier like Jadavon Clowny who are physically mature and beast since 18 so there is always going to be exceptions to the rule. I am really not sure what the correct answer is to the question, just pointing out why football is a different game than basketball and baseball.

I share your frustration because I love college football and don't care much for the NFL. It sucks that a lot of time, energy and money is put into getting players and developing them, and then they leave early. Of course, it sucks really bad for the player who chooses to stay rather than go pro to get hurt and seriously limit their future career and financial situation. But there is no easy answer. I guess the present system is best as it protects the interests and freedom of the individual player and the team can avoid some of the loss by good recruiting and development.

I agree with you that physical maturation is probably more important in football than some other sports. BUT! If you are one of the "outliers" it isn't right that you are kept from your million dollar a year job just because some people don't mature as fast as you. Thats my take anyway. If was my kid, and his dream was to be a pro, I would tell him to leave as soon as possible for the pro's. A few offseason practices and a couple of preseason games and you and the coaches are gonna know right away if you have enough talent to be an NFL player. If you do, then you start getting paid...if you don't...well your school didn't close when you left and you can go back and get your degree.
