i was picking up crawfish early last spring and walked in to the place. there appeared to be a long line of "LA Purchase Card" users. after about 5 minutes of standing there the lady working called me forward and told me they were waiting for their crawfish to cool to room temp so they could use the card. unfricking believable.

One helps people enter workforce and will be reimbursed via federal tax dollars from a college degree level job position.
One ensures you never have to enter workforce.
Comparing claiming interest from mortgage vs. welfare is beyond fixable.

It damn sure does. When you take out a loan, interest on that loan is part of the terms. You pay that interest and then at the end of the year you get credit toward your taxes for agreeing to and abiding by the terms of the loan. Did you think that interest just didn't get paid? Did you think your mortgage company just said frick it don't worry about it? No, the government paid the interest and gave you a credit on your taxes for it.

I had a career stop in an IT support position with a large public school district. The engineers and technicians were all great people, but the administration were lifelong edu-crats.
One day, one of the edu-crats was complaining about a tax problem. I offered some advice that led to him saving about $1500. Mind you, I am not an accountant - this was simply deductions that he was overlooking. He thanked me and went and told others.
Next thing I know, I hear someone screaming - that's what's wrong with Republicans - they always looking for loopholes and shat. Don't want to pay their taxes while us po folk have to pay. He probably have money in off shore accounts.
In my naiveness, I attempted to explain that what I suggested was not a loophole, but a deduction (had to do with his childcare expenses), and this woman was yelling at me as an evil person. So I fully believe that there is a population that thinks common deductions = shady white collar crime.

First off, don't adopt a dumb shite belief as your own simply because some imbecile doesn't understand what deductions are, what they are intended to do or who is eligible to receive them. Secondly, deductions on your taxes are credits that you receive for meeting certain criteria which reduce the amount you are required to pay in taxes for the income you make (with the exception of the EIC-which needs to be reduced or eliminated). Without those deductions you would be paying more than what you end up paying. Whether we like it or not, the tax rules are the law of the land. Meet the criteria, get the deduction. Regardless of what the deduction is, it is still government assisting you with meeting your tax requirement.

We didn't get all the school schedule holidays, but we did get the two weeks at Christmas.
Pay was way under private sector - which is why I eventually left. But you get sick and tired of watching your tax dollars be wasted. There was a storage room that had $100,000 in equipment that wasn't being used. One day an edu-crat said to trash it, and all of the engineers were about to swarm on it. The swarm raised her radar that she should probably check - it went to an asset auction instead.
