when the wife and I plan our yearly vacation, it's always on our list of potential destinations, but it hasn't made the cut yet.
What would make a trip to Key West more appealing than a drivable trip to NW FLA?

When will you be going?
I drove down for a day just to check it out. Hung out at the beach for 2 hours or so) without sunscreen in early Feb and I was sunburned bad; I hurt for 2 weeks.
So.. Wear sunscreen.

it's just different. has a island feel and it's old. it's really just a eating and drinking and people watching kind of place, the beach is not legit. go out on a boat for the day

I went in '02 during lobster fest. We stayed on the boat fishing and diving for lobster mostly. Probably one of the best trips I've been on.

Smather's beach
Caroline street
be prepared for the roosters
go to a drag show..its actually hilarious and how i finagled my wife into the titty bar
Louie's Backyard restaurant..pricey but very elegant and romantic...
pirate museum
snorkeling
the fort and the Dry Tortuga's...by plane
on the way down....stop in Islamorada at Bass Pro
get a six pack of beer in Key Largo and cruise with the windows down...stop and take it all in...
you will have a blast...

I think you can do it in about half that time usually, and it's a pretty kick arse drive, if you like that sort of thing.
However, it is damn bogus to tout that as a direct flight from New Orleans to Key West.

You can get to key west just not direct from Nola. We are flying into Ft. Lauderdale and out of Key West for the return flight.

Instead of deep sea fishing which you can do just about anywhere, why don't you fish the back country (the flats between the keys and the mainland)? I was there in September and we did a lot of shadowcasting and some shark fishing. Also caught a fair number of resident tarpon. Our guide was great. A different experience.

that article can't be right they are confused. no way on earth southwest flies to key west for 75 different connecting flights
ie.. never mind that's crazy i thought the airport was small but i never actually been there.
