full sarcasm intended LINK
quote:
The deal was less kind to the middle class. Congress permitted a cut in the payroll tax to expire, meaning that the tax burden for the average worker will increase about $1,000 in 2013.
quote:
Though Congress was willing to sign off on all these business-friendly goodies, legislative leaders couldn't muster enthusiasm for extending the payroll tax holiday, which had cost the federal government $120 billion each year in lost revenue. As a result, a worker who earns $50,000 a year will now pay at least $80 per month in taxes. The payroll tax increase will affect as many as 160 million people.
If this is true, it's good to know that it's business as usual in Washington regarding the lies and deceit. And don't give me any bull shite how this isn't a tax increase and it's only going back to the rates before Bush became president.

got my first check of 2013 today. 15% lower than last year. Amazing, I am still doing the same amount of work, for less money. Bravo Obama, and the mindless idiots who vote for you. People should have to be able to pass a test before they vote. Or better yet, the election ballot should be on your tax return.

Believe the payroll tax holiday they are talking about was actually passed by Obama. Even as far back as I can remember hearing about the dreaded fiscal cliff, no one ever talked about the tax holiday. No one ever intended to extend it. They all championed tax cuts for the middle class, all the while knowing we would get hit by 2% regardless. I like to picture all the politicians in DC smoking cigars, drinking brandy (apple-tinis for Reid and Obama) and laughing at our expense.

That is what they do...but some really do hate each other...word around the campfire is that Reid is a pretty dispicable cuss.

I am not sure which concerns me more.. The fact that our elected officials can look us in the face (by way of camera..) and lie to us or that the general populace believes our elected officials in spite of the long-standing history of being lied to...

What kind of jobs do y'all have that you get paid for work you haven't done yet (2013)? I got paid on the 1st for the work I did in the last 2 weeks of December and it was the same amount as my check from 12/16/12. I know my next one will be lower but I'm curious why y'all's paychecks are already showing the tax

In the case of the company I work for they paid checks differently due to our fiscal periods. We run four week periods which causes an extra week every 8 years or so. They will move check dates around so that way their isn't an extra check in the fiscal year. That being said, my OASDI went up on my to the tune of $90 a month before the vote. I'm expecting about another $100 a month with the social security. So I will be paying about $2400 more a year in taxes. This is just an estimate until my next check comes in.

We get paid weekly every thursday. Since payroll check was cut in 2013 i am guessing it had to include the new tax rates.

my pay period runs Wednesday to Tuesday and that pay is deposited into my checking account today. My e-stub showed them taking out 6.2% for SS as opposed to the 4.2% they took out last week. Being that Tuesday was part of the pay period, and Tuesday falling in the new tax code period it is withheld...

In fairness, I didn't hear a peep from either side about extending the payroll tax holiday. And wasn't it the current administration who put it into effect?

Look I live in rural Arkansas and I work for a Rice company (which Arkansas produces like 1/2 of the nations Rice) and I work my arse off every day. Physical Labor - no sitting, standing around for 10+ hours a day. Now I get paid well but it takes a toll on my body.. I work 5 1/2 to 6 days a week 7-5 or 7-7 depending on how many trucks are coming through. There is this guy who works with us and he works 55+ hours a week as well - He's a kinda buff white dude who works hard and whatnot. Well it's sad but I don't feel sorry for the guy one bit cause his wife is a 350 pound loud black lady who has 4 kids that he takes care. Even though she has 2 other kids by different guys when they were married, well they still are married. She sits at home all day, doesn't cook, doesn't clean.. she just sits at home and plays the lottery all day. Literally. That's who America is working to support. Now back to the original point - I work too damn hard (Loading 100 pound rice bags by hand to be shipped out) and running machinery/a lot of other stuff for this bull shite to happen. Straight up. Most people can't do my job, most people won't. Hell even mexicans quit because we work too hard. Next time you buy rice look at the package cause I'm willing to bet my company produced it. What's the point in working so damn hard and so much if I'm not going to be rewarded for it?

Funny. I bet you thought the temporary bush tax cuts expiring would be a tax increase. That's what your boys in washington kept telling us. Are you going to be consistent? Doubtful.
The politicians on both sides played it the same way. The D's said they were letting the cuts expire on the wealthy while the R's called it a tax increase, and the D's called any other tax bracket an increase... but they are politicians. What does it say about a non-politician like the OP and you and me if we try to "spin" the news?
