| Al Gore's Current TV sells out US operations to Al Jazeera (Posted on 1/2/13 at 6:32 pm)

Al Jazeera is making a big purchase: Current TV, the low-rated news channel co-founded by Al Gore. The New York Times reports that the Qatar-based cable news company is buying Current TV, which had no comment on the possible sale. Current TV is available in about 60 million of the 100 million homes in the United States with cable or satellite service, which would help Al Jazeera become more prominent in America. Current TV countersued Keith Olbermann last year after he was fired According to Nielsen, Current is averaging about 42,000 viewers on a typical night. Gore and businessman Joel Hyatt launched Current TV in 2005.
Quite a perspective setter

That translates into almost ZERO advertising rates. More viewers watch C-SPAN than that.

Didn't Comcast spend a shitton of money trying to keep Al Jazeera out of the US? United States of Sharia

I'm not sure they even have advertising, when I have watched the only thing I recall seeing are pledge drives and the selling of DVD's of their programs, t-shirts, and other stuff I think it operates more like a local public TV station. I'd assume the only real value the network has is its access to some viewers on cable and satellite providers. eta, on further reflection I am certain that is the case as they make a big deal out of receiving no corporation funding/advertising and claim that they are the people's network free of all bias except thier own.

That may very well be true. I've never watched that channel. I'm not sure it's even offered on Cox here in Baton Rouge. The only value of that channel has to be in its real estate or FCC license or something...

Did Glenn Beck try to buy Current TV? The Wall Street Journal reports: Mr. Hyatt said they agreed to sell to Al Jazeera in part because “Al Jazeera was founded with the same goals we had for Current,” including “to give voice to those whose voices are not typically heard” and “to speak truth to power.” Other suitors who didn’t share Current’s ideology were rebuffed. Glenn Beck’s The Blaze approached Current about buying the channel last year, but was told that “the legacy of who the network goes to is important to us and we are sensitive to networks not aligned with our point of view,” according to a person familiar with the negotiations.
LINK Will never understand why conservatives don't throw this type of stuff into the faces of Obama's Jewish voters.

First I am not exactly sure what stuff you are referring to. Second most us Jewish Democrats are not tremendously caught in identity politics (or at least as it relates to Jews, some are certainly caught up in other forms of identity politics) but rather use our background and upbringing to inform our politics on a whole range of issues. I wouldn't presume to speak for all Jews, but for many of us that leads us to a liberal perspective. Edit: Also we are about 2% of the population at most, I love that we are seen as having tremendous power, but in terms of votes, we don't have it.

As hard as I try, I'm not sure that I understand exactly what you're saying. And I would recommend you read nobodytooimportant's post above.

Israel doesn't matter in the eyes of American Jews? Shocking. You want Al Jazeera influencing minds of young fools in the U.S.? OK, that makes great sense. And all the while, Westboro Baptist's big political hero(Gore) sells out to Muslimania of media world, bypassing American buyers. Nothing to worry about, go back to sleep.

I didn't say Israel didn't matter, but does Israel matter more then a host of other issues in AMERICA, for AMERICAN Jews, no. Like I said Jewish Democrats are not that into identity politics as it relates to their Jewishness. They identify as Americans first.

I noticed that bit of wording too, he is definitely Otto. Why is it that the liberals that get banned are so freely able to manufacture an alter?

Cable channels don't require an FCC license.

Maybe it was all of those "Death to America" bumper stickers Gore had stocked up on.
