| Seven Players The Saints Will Have No Chance of Drafting (Posted on 12/31/12 at 10:48 am)
Besides better players one of the benefits of drafting higher is that the pool of possible draftees get much easier to define. At this point I have these names as 0% chance of being available at #15. Trading up might be a possibility if one would be around at #12-14. Higher than that and the price becomes exorbitant. Also one of the suckiest things is that the Bucs & Panthers pick at #13 & 14- not the most conducive trade partners. In part this effort is to hopefully reduce the number of threads about players that have no realistic chance of landing in NOLA. The next tier is where we need to focus discussion. Seven more beyond these will go before the Saints pick. Can we agree on these as consensus no-way-possibles? Whaddya say? Nice negative thread blues. Werner is a saints lock IMO.

I don't know blues. I think we need to wait until the combine. I really think Mingo, Jordan and Hunts numbers may push them way up the board and let Moore (possibly) or Werner (not as likely) fall to us. Especially since some are still playing in games and we've seen bad bowl games move people up and down in a draft.

Agree with those Blu's but it won't do any good unless stickied. Adding M Glennon QB

As much as I like Mingo as a College player, He is to lite for NFL D line. Not sure where you picture him playing in the Pro's.

I thought the same thing until I started comparing him to some pass rushers in the NFL. As a senior, Freeney was 6'2" and 250 lbs. per his Syracuse bio. His combine numbers were 6'1" and 266 lbs. Elvis Dumerville's combine numbers list him at 6'1" and 257 lbs. Kamerion Wimbley is listed as 6'4", 255 lbs in his 7th season. Terrell Suggs was listed at 6'4", 257 lbs out of college. Mingo is consistently listed at 6'4"/6'5" and 240 lbs. If he stayed his Sr. year, he could be around 250 pretty easily.

Is there any talk of where Montgomery may go?

As said, there will be another 7 that will be added before the Saints pick. After bowl games, all star games, and combine we'll likely have another 3-5 that we feel pretty sure will be gone. This is just a reference point to me of who we don't need to even waste conversation or threads about. Geno Smith is nothing of a Saints possibility but he will take up one of the 14 spots before them. Everyone should be pulling for Barkley to shine and boost his draft stock. Keenan Allen seems to be the consensus top WR pick in that next tier. There's another to hope he blows teams away and take one of those 14 spots before the Saints. Understanding all the picks before the Saints will give a lot of insight into who could be the selection. At #15 I'm willing to say by draft day we can have the Saints pick narrowed to 2-3 players just depending on how the picks fall. It's very similar to 2009 picking at #14. By that draft day I was 90% sure it would be Jenkins or Brian Cushing. My excitement is that I think the addition of two impact playmakers, one decent but not bank busting free agent and a #15 draft pick would be enough to catapult the defense from historic horribleness to not so terrible. Just an average defense coupled with our prolific offense (Payton led) will strike a lot of fear into opponents seeing Saints on their '13 schedule.

For the most part, I agree with your list. I simply don't know what Teo and Moore's draft value really is. Might depend on combines. I'm not sure. The rest for certain aren't making it to us unless we make a blockbuster trade up to get someone in particular. Sucks because I really covet Werner for the saints.

Teo is terrible nfl talent. this will be evident vs BAMA and the combine. I pray we don't consider him.

Teo is a MLB and that's about the only position we have a good player at so far. I seriously think Teo falls to the mid first despite the hype. He'll take a Brady Quinnesque fall IMO. Moore will likely go between 5-15 IMHO. I really think it depends on the bowl games and combines. Werner looks like he'll be gone early.

To be on this list are ones I'd go 90%+ belief they will be gone already. my take on 3 mentioned- Teo- agree he could end up falling to the Saints or a little lower. For right now though I'd call that less than 10% chance Moore- he's the player I could possibly see the Saints seeing as THE difference maker worth trading up before the kitty cats and bucs to get. Kinda the opposite of Teo to me- right now he's borderline on this list but think he will only go up on draft boards towards Top 5. Montgomery- right now Mingo or him could be the best pass rusher available when the Saints pick. Either or both could push up into the Top 12 or both still be on the board at #15. This is the way early look. Things will get clearer as we go.

Saints very well make a play to trade up and get the player they want. With the rookie cap, the risk of trading up isn't as great anymore because of the reduced salaries. Of course, I could also see us trading back, and picking up some extra picks to help out our D.

How do the Panthers pick ahead of us? Both 7-9. We lost to them twice.

I pray this doesn't happen. Trading up never really pays off for us. Traded up to get Mark Ingram. Meh Traded up for Sed Ellis. Meh Traded up for J. Sullivan. Traded up for Ricky Williams. I'd be perfectly happy picking at 15. Seems like everytime we trade up it ends up being a waste of a pick (or more)

Draft order goes by overall record first, then strength of schedule with the weaker SOS going first. Carolina and Tampa had a weaker Strength of Schedule than us, so they pick before us.
