My thoughts as well, but he did his damned best, did he not? ah, it´s Zeppelin.

Well, since you went there, I´ll heartily second your comment.

Kid Rock was truly bad. That new Nirvana singer wasn't a whole lot better. Kravitz was OK. They would have done much, MUCH better just to let Ann and Nancy do the whole thing. Those chicks can play the hell out of Led Zeppelin, and I mean the whole range of it.
am I the only one reading this??

that does sound like LZ, but, can they 'play the hell out of LZ'? I think not.

I wouldn't say that either, that song though is zepplinish.

This was a really awesome tribute. Glad the old dudes loved it. Hope that they have at least one more concert in them, but I still have my bootleg DVD/CD of London '07

They've been doing amazing covers of Zep their entire career. Perfect band for this. Going to California Black Dog

Yes, I'm sure Laura Bush was completely enthralled all 8 years she went to this.

The lead singer of Train Pat Monahan did a cover of "Ramble On" that sounds awesome. I don't know why he didn't do it.

I just watched it, holy shite. Jack Black did a great intro. Reverent enough, but also irreverent enough. Foo Fighters were awesome. You know Grohl was in heaven doing that. I didn't like Kid Rock being a part of it, but the band seemed to appreciate it. Lenny Kravitz was really good. You couldn't really put an artist and song together better than that. Perfect match for that. Stairway was fricking moving. Just fantastic. ETA: Just went back to watch The Who KC honors, just realized that Jack Black did their into as well and Dave Grohl sang for them.

it was an incredible version of stairway but everyone in the world knows that solo and there is such a buildup to it so the guys 'interpretation' stood out like a sore thumb

But the thing with Zeppelin is that there is no one on earth that's going to do a Zeppelin song better than they did it themselves. Every song they did was as good as it could be done. They're about the only band that can say that. Even the Beatles had songs that were done better by other artists (A Little Help From My Friends comes to mind). I looked at it that way and I wasn't disappointed with the performance because I knew it wasn't going to measure up.

Well, I hope everybody bitching about the solo realized that Jimmy Page wasn't going to leap from the balcony like John Wilkes Booth and play it himself. I thought the guy did an adequate job given the bizarre arrangement.
