| Ingram did get a bit better late in the season (Posted on 12/30/12 at 9:27 pm)
looking at his numbers: The first seven games 47 carries 134 yards 2.9 ypc 19 ypg 7 carries per game 1TD Next 9 games 123 carries 468 yards 3.8 ypc 52 ypg 14 carries per game 4TD His yards per carry average is still at bit lacking and he's not been very consistent but he does seem to be progressing. I'm still not fond of the fact we seemingly wasted a 1st rounder on an average running back but he's finally contributing something I suppose. ETA: I did the first 7 and next 9 because Ivory came in game 8 and that's when Ingram seemingly started running better.

Gives me some hope he'll have a breakout season next year

Part of me wants to see him be THE guy who gets the bulk of our carries at RB instead of splitting with 2 others. He seems like a runner who gets into a groove and does well with more work. But at the same time, I'm not sold on Ingram ever being a feature back in an offense and I think Thomas is our best running back.

If the other guys didn't look better than him in most games I'd agree.

I think he can be a feature back and get 20 carries but we'll never know with a 4 back rotation

If any of our backs this year did anything to separate themselves and prove worthy of more carries, it'd be Ivory. IMO none of the others really rose up and said I want to be THE guy. Problem with Ivory is we're all pretty positive he can't stay healthy over the full grind of a season.

Yeah he's definitely an energy changer but can't take the beating of being the guy

meanwhile, 6th round pick Alfred Morris is beasting all over the 2012 season. I'm not a fan of taking a RB in the 1st unless its a talent you can't pass on. I know I'm not alone in this but I think RB is the easiest position to fnd talent. You can find guys from small schools who can follow blocks and make plays without spending your first rounder.

Running backs just aren't as valuable as they once were. Trading up to draft one isn't a very smart idea

Especially in our offense. It's a pass heavy offense and we split carries between a bunch of backs. Is 2006 with Deuce the last time we had a workhorse who got most of the carries? So yeah, trading up for a RB in an offense not very reliant on one main back wasn't smart. I think it was a bit of a short sighted reaction to most of our running backs going down before the Seattle playoff game.

Yeah, but if PT was messed up, we'd need Ingram to really take over.

Its not even debatable that Ingram is still only, at best, the 4th best RB on the team.

Kind of funny that his "light" did not come on until he saw Ivory tearing it up. He was very willing to take it up the gaurds arse every and earn his paycheck until Ivory started wrecking havoc, then he decides he would begin bouncing things to the holes. I agree, still 4th best on team.

It's just frustrating to see Ingram in the game, he has the effort and intensity as you'll see on some runs when he gets the blocking. However there is no blocking half the time cause it's pretty obvious where he's going with the ball unless it's a play action pass. Ivory is good, but unfortunately is seem to be made of glass

Yea, so what's wrong with letting Ivory get the rock every game and if and when he goes down, then boom we still have PT and Ingram. Who cares if Ivory gets hurt trying to be the big dawg, at least we would then have backup plans. I just fricking hate this 4 back rotation BS. Ivory given a full load would avg. 120 yards a game, book it.

i hate the running by committee approach unless its two backs where it was when we had deuce/bush combo. one hard runner and one change of pace back. if ingram can get better and better with blocking and receiving, we should go with an ingram/sproles combination. ivory can't catch or block very well, we all remember what happened during the ATL game don't we...

Exactly, ivory is a liability on this team because of that
