Such a full, gorgeous pure melodic voice.

Speaking of sandwiches, has there been a vote for Mama Cass Elliot yet ? Absolutely amazing voice and died way too soon.

Female: Amy Winehouse and Sinead O'Connor (especially from The Chieftans' "Long Black Veil"). Male: Morrisey(?).

I don't think Mike Patton's the greatest, but he deserves a mention.

brad delp - boston if you don't believe he is, then listen to "more than a feeling" real closely. he actually hits the highest note of any rock and role artist ever at one point in the song. it was measured.

Jeff Buckley's voice is immortal. Think about the way he sung "the way young lovers do"...infinitely better than a brilliant singer in his own right, Van Morrison. Then listen to Lilac Wine. Also, the search function tells me Marvin Gaye has not mentioned...you serious, Clark?

No shite. Karen Carpenter's voice was certainly unique. I'm sad for all the music we didn't get to hear. I'm sure she would have ventured into the "Great American Songbook", which would have been spectacular coming from her.

Marvin Gaye
His version of "Yesterday" is one of the most heartfelt versions I can think of. Throwing out some blue-eyed sould options because they tend to be overlooked. Bill Medley Steve Winwood (a voice mostly unchanged in 50 years of work) Felix Cavaliere I think Greg Allman, Richard Manuel, and Levon Helm have three of the more distinct and underappreciated voices in these discussions.

Well, isn't this pretty subjective. Everybody has a favorite voice. Very hard to find a GOAT on which everyone can agree. Oh, and go /out

If these are indicitive of the types of voices you have near the top of you list then please don't. I can get on board with WHitney. Nobody can argue that she wasn't amazing in her prime. Striesand makes me want to shove rusty screw drivers through my eardrums. I love Reba, but her voice is actually pretty weak. The duet she did with Kelly Clarkson was painful. Kelly had to basically whisper for Reba to be a part of the song. Reba should never be put on the same level as Kelly. It was pathetic.
