| Good places to eat in Cameron Parish? (Posted on 12/30/12 at 3:07 pm)
Will be traveling down there in a couple of weeks (free use of beach house) to celebrate anniversary. Of course, we'll be doing most of our own cooking, but what are some good local spots? Is Rabideaux's still open in Iowa (I know that's Calcasieu) but worth the drive if it's still open and the sausage is still good.

Which side of the river will you be on? If on the west side not much at all is down there. There may be a bar in Hackberry. If you want to drive up to Sulphur. There is a restaurant called LeBleu's landing which recently opened that is decent. The crawfish were very good and clean. On the East side I'm not real sure what's left down there as Sha Sha's moved up to LC. Rabideaux's is still open in Iowa.

Thanks. The west side, Holly Beach. Are there some good local places in Cameron itself, the ferry ride is not that far. Or Johnson Bayou? I will probably stop at the grocery store in Hackberry to stock up on some Cajun groceries, and a friend has told me about The Sausage King in Sulfur. Does anyone know if that is any good? It's not shrimping season, is it? I was wondering if some of the grocery stores might have some "fresher" frozen shrimp at a better price than we can get here in North Louisiana.

Newly remodeled. Formerly The Speckled Trout. I think they renamed it though.

Unfortunately not. Too expensive to rebuild/insure. They have a decent little place in Creole, but you're talking about 35 minutes or so from Holly Beach.

Thanks for the info about Spicer's and The Speckled Trout in Hackberry? Was the daiquiri stand before or after Rita? And what is the name of the place in Creole? We are going to be there about a week and will be doing some driving around.

T-Boy's. It's at the red light in Creole.

They probably want to stay away from the The Speckled Trout or whatever it is called these days.

You're probably talking about the Sausage Link in Sulphur. Location is on Hwy 90 or he just opened up a new one called LeBleu's Landing at Exit 20 which you will probably be exiting to go to Holly Beach. For some fresh seafood I would suggest stopping at Holly Beach Seafood which is approx 5 miles south of Sulphur on Hwy 27 heading toward Hackberry. Usually has good selection of shrimp and fresh shucked oysters.

They used to have some pretty good plate lunches at Brown's when I worked there during the summers.

Thanks to everybody for the advice. I just wanted to do some recon before I went. About Holly Beach Seafood, is it the one that used to actually be in Holly Beach, just a new place moved inland a few miles after Rita? And thanks so much again. The beach house is gratis and it is our 30th anniversary. I will pass a good time, no matter if it rains the entire time, I'll walk on the beach in the rain.

Yes the folks that own holly beach seafood are very nice. Been knowing them for years. Second the motion on LeBleus in Sulphur. Holliers has a good ribeye and Joes does good Italian. Glad to hear people returning to Holly Beach. Have fun! LINK For your listening pleasure
