You should read Sex, Murder, and the Meaning of Life by Douglas Kenrick. It is about evolutionary psychology, all of these pleasure and pain issues have to do with your desires to find mates and ultimately mate with them, and then raise your progeny.

True love as in some magical concept that particular people are meant to be together? Transcendent love? That's complete nonsense for the naive/emotionally weak

I do. To go through what we are going through and still be together, the only answer has to be yes.

My definition is that you truly love someone, not you were meant to be with that person. A lot bozos can fall in love with every girl they date. They just want to settle down & get married.

"love" is forged through shared experience, through dedication, and the decision to love that person. I think arranged marriages might be a better idea that this recent concept of romantic love.

Sounds legit. There is no telling sometimes what psychologist will come up w/ but this work may be worth a read. Sex Love and Lasting Relationships by Chip Ingram has done more for me than any other work.

You couldn't be more wrong with this statement. Look at all the bastards that have no clue who their fathers are. At least a child usually knows it's mother.
I agree there are a lot of POS men out there who are no better than stray dogs...planting their seed and moving on. But men as a species should not be stereotyped because of these low lifes. I would stop a bullet for my children and know several men who would do the same for theirs. My ex-wife on the other hand, loves our children when it's convenient. She is more concerned with herself and always will be.

males can have different strategies for ensuring the survival and success of their genetic code, it appears you have chosen one and these "stray dogs" have chosen another

I knew her at first as a friend. We both had mutal friends and got to know each other in a group setting for a year. I started wanting more than friendship but her best friend had a crush on me and it kabashed a romance in her mind. Another of her friends encouraged her to go out w/ me. I had a rep as a womanizer and she was not interested. It took a year of convincing her that I was for real. Fireworks? More like a frickin military style conquest.

Once, a long time ago. Everything else is just a means to an end now.

What is the end? What is means? Today is the tomorrow we worried about yesterday. Okay, you get to your desired end. Then what? Man I've been there. Always wanting to bone the perfect babe. Then what? Hunting is a sport. But after a while you get bored of having a lot of company but no one knows you. You only let them in so far. Eventually you have to risk something and it has to cost you something for it to be real. The real hunt is for happiness. Good hunting!
