Would You Rather Die with Honor or Live with Shame?

I've been reading about Ismay from the Titanic who survived on one of the life boats despite designing the ship and it got me wondering what I would do. I'd definitely take life over death.

Live with shame. Easy. I'm to live, not to die.

I'd hope this wasn't true but I have a feeling I'd pull something like George on Seinfeld when he runs over the kids to escape the fire.

If you die with honor you still die which is problematic. If you do enough fricked up shite and are forced to forgive yourself in order to move forward you kind of become shameless after a while actually.

It's pretty easy to adapt to shame or let time heal things. Neither are possible with death.

Sounds noble to die with honor but you sure as hell aren't around to enjoy it.

It was claimed that it was built to be unsinkable...

He should have gone down with it!

Honor's a fickle thing, and has committed many a man to his grave. But the dead don't bask in the glory of their unsullied honor. They bathe in graveworms. Sure, their songs may be sung for a while, but they are sung by men with enough sense to live.

Honor is all well and good, but never underestimate the power of cunning, for it will fell the honorable man far more often than righteous stands. And it's the living who write the histories.

One of the many reasons why we will never measure up to the greatest generation.
