Why does the French Revolution get more credit towards the global advancement...

...of democratic/enlightenment principles around the world than the American Revolution and subsequent constitution, which was the French Republic's predecessor?

Seems the French Revolution's is held up as more significant historically than the many other large revolutions in recent world history, in that it is credited as the beginning of the "new era". Seems that this is the case due to it being credited as the first significant instance of a revolution by the people over oppressive bourgeois royalty rule in the interest of self-governance.

Didn't the Americans do the same shite as the French (rebel against royal rule and advance governance by the people) over a decade before the French? Is the French Revolution held a more significant in terms of world history simply because it took place in Europe and within the primary boundaries of the ruling government (as opposed to in a territory)?

The French actually overthrew their king and executed him.

No, it ranks as one of the worst events in world history.

The American Revolution wasn't really a break with the past. The French Revolution killed the King. That event shaped the political history of Europe until at least the end of the First World War.

It doesn't.

Because Victor Hugo didn't write one of the greatest novels of the 19th century about it, 60 million people haven't seen a play about it and a new movie didn't just open on it?

Or maybe you have Rant Penis Envy (the belief that neither ESPN nor anyone else respects you) and your premise is wrong.

Les Mis isn't about the French Revolution.

Actually it kind of was about the revolution, just not directly. Just as Zhivago wasn't directly about the Russian Revolution, but was a tremendous insight into it.

This. A Tale of 2 Cities is probably more associated with the revolution.

I had this once but I learned to self-medicate with single malt. (Sometimes I still feel like Peter Gammons is talking down to me.)
