| Do you still use spinning wing decoys? (Posted on 12/28/12 at 1:01 pm)
Last time, didn't seem to matter to dos gris and teal, but grey ducks would turn and come straight to the call, then get close to that thing and would flare like they got shot at. Had about 8 little groups do that. We had beend dropped off at the blind and didn't have a pirogue to go and take it down. I thought about shooting it.

First split I use them a lot. Second split if I use them, It is only for the first hour of the morning or if it is going to be rainy all day.

Also, if there are tons of teal in the area i use them. If its mostly gray ducks might as well put em up.

Id rather not hunt with em but my partners don't feel the same way...I bought a remote for them so they at least turn em off when we're working big ducks now. Compromise

The last time I was in a lease, late in the season it seemed that the more you had the better. 1or 2 did not work, but 5 or 6 seemed to work pretty well.

I turn them off after about an hour after sun up. They are great at getting the ducks attention, but more often than not flare more than they attract.

^^^ this... They are extremely good at the first of the season but lose a lot of their effectiveness towards the middle to end of the season. The remote is the way to go. As soon as they lock in, we will turn them off.
