| Should I get far cry 3 today? (Posted on 12/27/12 at 7:27 am)
I don't feel like digging through old threads for reviews. Is this game awesome? The hunting sounds awesome. Is it an extremely open type world like red dead sort of was as far as hunting?

I'm just not too sure as to how replayable it is. I can't see myself going back through and doing all of the hunting and radio towers. I think it's one of those one and done games that is amazing on the first experience, but tedious on subsequent runs

I'm going to get either Far Cry 3 or Halo 4 today. Can't decide which.

Here is my take. Pros: Great controls Great graphics Great voice cast (outside the main character) Open world is large and fights are always fun. Good crafting system and large number of weapons. Alright amount of side missions. Cons: Subpar story Pretty much no replayability. You craft all the items very quickly. Gun unlocks are way too easy. Short main story for a RPG (IMO) Slight repetitiveness with some of the side missions. Overall, I'd give it a 7.5/10. I would recommend getting it from Gamefly rather than buying it.

SPOILER I read that you defeat the best boss enemy half way through the game, and the final boss enemy guy is kinda meh.

SPOILER Yes, you heard correct. The villain on the cover of the game and in the commercials is killed halfway through. It was quite anti-climactic.

Thanks for this review. I may just borrow this from a friend since it has no replayability and my $60 bucks probably wont get me past a few days of hard playing.

I can't imagine playing it twice -- I've been logging a lot of hours on it since buying it right before Christmas, and I'm only like 40% done with the game. I think you'll get plenty of gameplay out of just a first run through. I've finally activated all the towers on the first island and found all the hunting stuff to upgrade the gear I wanted (holster, ammo bag, rucksack, wallet). Now I'm buying maps and trying to go back and find runes and lost letters. I'm enjoying this game a lot. I consider myself a "casual gamer," and probably only buy 4-6 games per year. Far Cry 3 is one of the best I've played in a while. I was on the fence about it until reading a lot of the discussion on this board, and I don't have any regrets about picking it up.

Good call. Great game. I agree about not replaying it, but a single playthrough has plenty of lasting appeal, IMO.
