this movie obviously cut a lot out of the theatrical release. it may be why it is so disjointed

re: Just got back from seeing Django Unchained

He's not rational. Is it rational to shoot the Sheriff in front multiple witnesses who might shoot back? Is it rational to bet your life that the Marshal will arrive to negotiate a surrender?

Was it rational to believe he could draw a weapon and kill a man who already had a shotgun trained on him in the opening scene?

His character is into gamesmanship. He's a clever and cunning linguist who only comes across as rational because if his linguistic skills.

Also Leonardo is somewhat overrated as an actor but was exceptional in Django.

that's probably because he doesn't have cool initials like DDL and JGL for the fans on here to drop every chance they get.

Leonardo DiCaprio has improved each and every film since Titanic. if he wasn't a pretty boy, then most of his haters would be hugging his nuts like they do other great actors. to say that he is overrated is just false. his performances have been brilliant in all of these films -

The Aviator
Blood Diamond
The Departed
Revolutionary Road
Shutter Island

Look man, I like Leo the actor...I thought his performance in the basketball diaries was extraordinary... He fell off a little with me in Inception and J Edgar but comes back strong in Django.

Just because I think he's a little overrated doesn't mean he's mediocre.

I just don't think he the best in business like many do.

I hear ya and I don't think he is the best in the business either, but he's up there. I also don't think its fair to say he "fell off a little" with his performance in J. Edgar. He was damn good in that and received SAG and Golden Globes nominations for his role. The movie sucked though IMO. I also think that Inception was more of a payday/big studio type of movie and he knew that so he also took on Shutter Island in that same year (which is probably his most underrated or under appreciated role). He reportedly earned 59M off of the back-end of Inception. that's crazy.

Yeah I'm probably holding the suckage of J Edgar against him too much.

He is a great actor regardless.

Waltz better win an Oscar for this, he was absolutely brilliant. Movie was great and funny too. Without spoiling anything, there was a very Family Guy-esque scene in the middle that had the entire theatre laughing.

re: Just got back from seeing Django Unchained

This was a fantastic movie. I loved all of the actors, and was especially suprised that Dicaprio was not bad, but pretty great. I'm not a huge fan of his acting (although he does pick good movies), and I'm not a huge fan of him as a person either (only dates supermodels, freaked out when he wasn't nominated for Titanic), but he did a fine job.

Christoph Waltz needs to be in more movies. He is hilarious. Everyone who has seen this movie will know he did and said several funny things, but one line in particular he said to Django when his wife fainted made everyone in the theater die of laughter.

fair. he is a bit annoying with his hypocritical global warming views when he is photographed traveling around in a private jet all the time.

and you're mad at him for that?

from what I've read of this the media blew it completely out of proportion, but no one will likely ever know the real story. also he wasn't nominated so its not as if he "needed" to be there. most actors/actresses who aren't nominated, but the movie they were in was also don't attend the awards. some do, but most don't. I think this was about 90% media hype to create a story considering how popular he was at the time.

Hmm...Something very interesting I noticed about this film...

People I know who dont like Tarantino (or his movies much...well I wont say they hate them...but they dont think they're great)

LOVED this movie.

People I know who are huge Tarantino fans. Find it a very good film. Ranked below everything but Death Proof and maybe the Kill Bill films.

Interesting.

Is that him?"

"Yeah"

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah"

"Are you positive?"

"I'm not sure"

"You're not sure that's him?"

"I'm not sure what positive means"

"I'm positive that hes dead"

re: Just got back from seeing Django Unchained

I'm a huge Tarantino fan. I always thought I had a unique perspective to bring to film making. There was a void that wasn't being filled. I believed I could put some things on film that the public would be shockingly pleased with. After falling in love upon seeing Reservoir Dogs, I felt validated. I anxiously awaited Pulp Fiction. But after seeing that masterpiece, i felt unworthy. Suddenly, he took everything I imagined a movie could be and turned it up tenfold. I knew then that there was nothing I could do or imagine that could compete with Tarantino.

Then he never came close again...until Inglorious Basterds.

But Django is right up there with Pulp Fiction in nearly every way. It was a guilty pleasure. I loved being able to laugh out loud over stylistic use of the n-word while sitting among black americans who had the same level of appreciation for it as I did. I loved that the movie could easily appeal to whites and blacks. Nobody drops an n-bomb quite the way Samuel L Jackson does.

Django will be in my dvd collection. I will be watching it at least once a year for the rest of my life.

re: Just got back from seeing Django Unchained

For the people unsure about Jamie Foxx as Django.

Samuel L. Jackson originally WANTED to play that part. Obviously QT didnt want his character that old (Sam's in his early 60s..but could pass for late 40's/early 50's)

While watching this movie. (And I do love it)

I do wonder how Sam as Django and lets say......

Morgan Freeman as Stephen

Just throwing it out there. Think that could have been epic as well.
