1. IB 2. Pulp (i do admit that my frame of reference is bad here, b/c i started really watching movies after this came out. its cultural impact is lost on me a bit and i fully admit that) 3. Dogs 4. Jackie 5. Kill Bill(s) 6. Django 7. Death Proof

DJango will be a lot like Jackie Brown imo.. In this sense.. It will get better as the years go by. Kill Bill drops as the years go by. Even Basterds drops a smidge.. This will get better. You'll notice the subtleties of Waltz's character and why he made the choices he made. Also.. I CANT WAIT for the 3hr 20 min version on DVD!!

i meant to add this in my initial/big commentary this movie obviously cut a lot out of the theatrical release. it may be why it is so disjointed

I just honestly dont get how people think Basterds is better than this. This had way better structure than Basterds. The comedy was at the perfect time. Im telling you this movie will be viewed much different..in a year or so.

Eh.. The structure was still better than Basterds imo (Which I loved also) But to each its own. I respect your opinion.

better acting better dialogue better story more tense scenes (there is nothing in django that comes close to the opening scene or the bar scene of IB)

no way the structure/pacing of this movie was not good. it jumped from one scene to the next without transition or flow

False Even Maybe Fair point Better acting in IB than Django?? Django is the type of movie that may get 3 nods for Best Supporting Actor. Its Waltz/Fassbender(sp) and thats it in terms of "great acting" in IB. Dicaprio/Jackson destroys Brad Pitt and whoever else. I thought the dialogue was just as good. The interactions of Shultz with the Marshall, the Speck brothers, etc were tremendous. Basterds had a better story, but Django executed its story better. There was no scene as intense as the Tavern scene. But the "Handshake" scene was tremendous as well. Again...watch it again...give it some more time...Let it sink in. Inglorious Basterds was great....but I think ultimately Django will be viewed/favored more as time goes by.

I will be watching it again this weekend. Did anyone else enjoy the 2nd half more than the first? I thought it was much better

and waltz was a lot better in IB, plus there were great performances by the french scarlet jo and diane kruger there wasn't anything like that in django, imho. jamie fox just was mean and black and shultz was unremarkable. leo was pretty good, though

jackson was a one-trick pony who got old after the initial scene (which was hilarious)

they were forced and repetitive, like samuel j jackson's character
quote:
But the "Handshake" scene was tremendous as well.
but there was no real development to that point. it was like a 180 all of a sudden that created conflict shultz had issues with slavery and then after doing a good thing just goes, "frick it i'm going to die here making a moral point in front of people who won't give a shit, instead of leaving and coming back to kill them later." like i said, it was just forced

yes. the first half was kind of boring. i kept waiting for conflict to develop, which required the introduction of candie and his people

Not me, the first half delivered more than the second IMO. ****SPOILERS**** However, the dining room scene did deliver. After the handshake it becomes predictable, Django ends up killing everyone and rides off with the girl. The first half of the film seemed more intriguing and engaging.

I, too, felt that Schulz was forced. He was too much of the same character as Landa. I agree, I enjoyed the acting in Basterds more.
