| Hornets Draft Selection- Who would you pick at #1, #3, #5 (Posted on 12/26/12 at 1:00 am)
PG- While Vazquez has done a nice job this year, to be in title contention need a great PG. Here are the options: Michael Carter-Williams 6'6 (185) Syracuse- long and athletic, his best trait is also what plagues him, he threads the needle like nobody else, has an average outside shot. CJ McCollum 6'3 (170) Lehigh- can flat out score the ball, also being a college senior is more developed than almost every other draft prospect, will be a solid PG in the NBA. Marcus Smart 6'4 (200) Oklahoma St.- a player that is picking up a lot of notice by NBA scouts, his raw athleticism is amazing, has a very high motor, but struggles at times shooting. Archie Goodwin 6'5 (195) Kentucky- a tweener PG/SG that is a developed scorer, John Calipari has said "We will go as far as Archie takes us." High praise for the 3rd best draft prospect on the Wildcats. While Anderson is a solid 3 whom the Hornets have invested in, there are 3 really good SF prospects. Shabazz Muhammad 6'6 (220) UCLA- IMO the best prospect out there, has a polished NBA game already, a very goid comparison James Harden. Otto Porter 6'8 (200) Georgetown- a prospect that has soared up the board, a tremendous defender, can shoot the ball, could be the best player from this draft has that kind of upside. Alex Poythress 6'8 (240) Kentucky- a really good player that is extremely athletic and another really good defender. Center: Robin Lopez has exceeded expectations but long term again is he the option, the 2013 and 2014 drafts are filled with big men, could be an option pairing someone with Davis. Nerlens Noel 6'11 (220) Kentucky Cody Zeller 7'0 (240) Indiana Alex Len 7'1 (225) Maryland Isaiah Austin 6'11 (200) Baylor Rudy Gobert 7'1 (235) France Personally #1 Shabazz Muhammad #3 Cody Zeller #5 Otto Porter

Good write up I just wanted to say that anderson doesn't really play the 3. Ryno/Davis will be our front court when davis bulks up a bit. If shabazz is there we'll take him but it's always best to go BPA imo

Agree with your disagree. Great write up, OP. much appreciated. But go back and look at the names of the PGs who won the ship the past 20 years. Then go look at their stats, especially PER. You'll be surprised.

What I mean by great is not all-time great, but one of the best players in the leauge. I know the arguement is coming well look at Chalmers well Lebron, Wade, Bosh. All o these PG's are better than Vazquez no offense 1. Westbrook 2. Paul 3. Parker 4. Conley 5. Lawson 6. Nash 7. Lilliard 8. Collison, Lin, Rubio That is just the Western conference, I like Vazquez and how he has been a real surprise this year but be honest.

My ideal situation - if the Hornets get #1 you take Shabazz and end the rebuilding and start developing. But if the Hornets get #2 and below and Shabazz is going #1, I would trade down. Yes nobody has two top 10 picks yet but in every draft it winds up happening. No offense to Noel, IMO Zeller, Len, and Austin/Gobert are just as good if not better right now. Trade down and get Porter/Poythress and Carter-Williams/ McCollum or a Center. Either way you will cement the post or outside for the future. Still so far off just the only thing that keeps me involved with this team is the future.

I lik desean Thomas from ohio state at SF. Dude can can play the 3 and 4 with a nice outside stroke and get inside to.

A guy like McCollum is a great fit at pg w/ Gordon. Good shooter, good ball handler, good enough size/speed on defense. Don't think he's an all star, but they've got 3 potential all stars already. I disagree slightly with BPA for this team if they are a high lottery team. Another big (depending on what the plan is for Lopez) just makes no sense. Davis/Anderson aren't going anywhere and should be playing 36+mpg every night. Lopez is good value, even if he rebounds less than I would like. A high lottery rookie will be the fourth big in a year that Monty will want to start winning games. If they move Lopez, then things change for me.

Great post. Shabazz Muhammad is the player I want with Zeller a close 2nd.

Please punctuate next time. Otherwise, good write up I'd take Shabazz, Zeller, and McCollum

I agree with this, and I am usually very pro-BPA. We need a SF in the worst way, and with slim pickings in FA, Mohammed would be a perfect fit. If he's gone, and it's too high for Porter, then I would go with a PG.

Smart needs to start shooting a shite ton better than what he is right now for him to be considered a top-10 pick.

If Muhammad isnt there I would love Porter, heres my reasoning. I am in no way saying Porter is better but he is 6'8 with guard skills and can guard 3 positions he is that good defensively. If Gordon is healthy he is a top scorer in the NBA. Rivers will be a goo scorer as well, and Anderson you know what he can do. You add the best perimeter defender in this years draft and allow Rivers to be your 6th man. Have two things going for you have a great 6th man that would help our bench that is really bad, and provide a lock down defender. Otto Porter comparitively is a lot like Shane Battier when he came out from Duke.

Great write up. Shabazz at 1. McCollum at 3. Nerlins at 5. What do you guys think about packaging the pick with a player or two and nabbing a top flight guy? Who is at a point where a rebuild would be in the near future, and they have a piece we could really use?

Still Lebron and Larry Hughes backed up by E. Snow (not a bad combination)

Kidd can still bring it. Notice the Knicks kind of got alot better since they picked him up. Dallas has kind of fell off.. coincedence?

Derek Fisher x100
Your best point, but the triangle doesn't need a great PG. I don't see the Hornets picking up Tex Winter anytime soon..
