My guess is that with the attention from the NYT article and them trying to sell ads/increase revenue, there's an effort to avoid anything that could be considered "controversial."

Well advertisers can't see our sigs and avis unless they are members so that doesn't make sense.

I too have noticed the correlation between the NYT article and the recent admin gestapo.
However, I don't know what it means.

Well, if you try to start a conspiracy theory about it Meaux Jo will show up pretty soon thereafter to let you know how stupid you are, to adjust your tinfoil hat, and remind you to relax your little brain.

That's the thing, I don't have any theories, just observations.
The NYT article also coincided with the LSU/Bama game.
Just another observation.

They haven't whacked the NOFD Calendar Fark thread, so the problem may be the inscrutable satire of that particular avi.
Also, I joined during the LSU/Bama game week, so that has something to do with it, no doubt.
