Ball in Obama's court now. Unfortunately, he has the refs and the commentators squarely in his corner.

Mr. Speaker must have read my email to him yesterday....told him to go down swinging for what is right and not to compromise on his core beliefs.

Boehner is totally missing the point here. He is maneuvering for a political win (debatable) but has done absolutely nothing to address the problems this country faces. Someone in the Republican party needs to call him out for this publicly. He needs to be removed as speaker. The best thing for this country moving forward is seeing each party break ranks and attack their own. The first/next real opportunity will be with this failure to address the debt crisis. This is the beginning of a real opportunity for the Republican party to redefine itself.

To address the huge economic threat that is the deficit/debt problem. He has instead maneuvered for a "political win" that will have no positive impact on said economic threat...even if he "wins".

Rush Limbaugh made a great point today. He said Obama has never been blamed for anything. Hasn't been blamed for the economy, hasn't been blamed for Benghazi, hasn't been blamed for Fast & Furious, you name it. Why would he get blamed now? Boehner is a fricking retard. What part of "don't raise anyone's taxes" does he not understand? If my congressman votes for this shite tomorrow it might be torch and pitchfork time.

To find a compromise with Republicans on which Bush tax cuts to extend, Ms. Pelosi, the House minority leader, and Mr. Schumer, a member of the Senate Finance Committee, favor making $1 million the cutoff. Above that level, Mr. Schumer has said, people are not likely to spend the savings from lower taxes and help the economy. Administration officials said they did not believe that the difference between the White House and these Democratic leaders was a big obstacle. They said that whether to use $250,000 or $1 million as a cutoff was more a matter of strategy than a “religious debate,” in the words of one official, who added that many other Democrats favored $250,000.

It doesn't even matter how we got here. The issue has to be addressed. And, neither party leadership is addressing it. Both parties need new leadership and it has to come from the other members of the party. This is a great opportunity (for both the country and politically) for a fiscally conservative movement to occur in both parties.

When you step back and look at it, it's embarrassing. And now, they'll probably come up with yet another 'kick-the-can down the road' solution in the 11th hour. And it won't do anything but increase/extend uncertainty. I'd almost rather go over the cliff at this point. At least our deficit would be cut in half.

That's all congress does now. Rabble rabble rabble down to the wire and then miraculously they come up with some previously undiscussed solution that fixes everything. Pretty sure we're going to get an extension of BTC on below 500k earners and that's it. Maybe some promised spending cuts over the next decade Also with that will come a downgrade from Fitch

Agreed. I don't agree with the defense cuts but it's a huge entity and they'll streamline. Besides Republicans shouldn't have cut such a shitty deal on the debt ceiling if they're so worried about sequestration now.
