Not really

Overall taxes are at historic lows. The total % you pay now with all the SS/Medicare and Fed taxes taken out is less than it would have been decades ago. The medicare/SS taxes have been temporarily lowered for the last couple years as well giving you an even bigger tax break.

Also:
quote:

I'm not gonna get shite back when I am 65

Not necessarily true

I agree that had you invested that money yourself, you would probably be better off. But if you can't find extra money to invest for yourself when taxes are at all time lows then I'm not sure you would have invested it anyway. It would have probably all went to ipads and other shite you don't need.

You know I bet sometime in the glorious past a citizen of Rome said those same words.

Too bad they will probably ban Final Exit and it will be illegal to kill yourself. It's not enough that the govt. will take their cut when you are dead. Those scumbags want to milk you for every single penny you've got.

Yes. The govt has stolen thousands of dollars from you and you will either get a reduced amount or nothing back. Those dollars would be worth considerably more if you invested them in a private account tracking the S&P 500 index or in actual treasury bills. On top of this, your private account would not be surrendered to the government when you die.

Here's a great, quick video on the matter: LINK

Which taxes are at historic lows? And at what point in history are you going back to? The country is over 200 years old you know.

And how does that correspond to historic spending levels?

Yeah they were lowered until election night had passed now they are set to go up again.

Taxes are not at all time lows. There wasn't even a social security tax until the 1930s. You must have a new definition of all time.

And there is a difference between you choosing what to do with your money and the government taking it from you with the promise they'll give it back to you in inflated currency when you're 65 if you even live that long.

What he said.

+ the people who devised, voted and implemented SS are all dead. So, the moment we (future kids) are born we are told, "congrats, you managed to avoid abortion, but now you have to pay. No, no, you don't get to vote about it, we don't want your consent, thoughts, or opinions about the dead people's system, your job is to shut up and pay."

This hyper-partisan BS from both sides is doing more harm than good. Both sides will continue to villfy the other until they realize nothing is getting done and then we can come together and compromise.

I just think the days of Dutch Reagan and Tip O'Neill having a beer together and laughing about what they just said about each other to the press (ala pro wrestlers) are long past.

And clearly the country has voted for megadebt, hyperinflation and default. More choices will have to be offered (Republicans represent, by-and-large, a "false" choice) and taken for anything to change - and I am not optimistic.

You're right that the sky isn't falling - it's actually fallen. What happens next is anybody's guess.

Said every society that lead and advanced Civilization and none of which sustained. We are the best, have been the best but will not continue to be the best under our current path.

All very true.

We are the best

Debatable

quote:

have been the best

No question - the best EVER, and within my lifetime, but I can't make that argument with a straight face, now. Stongest does not necessarily equal the greatest.

We've already come down from the peak and are headed to base camp.

I think that could be debated.

OK so let's say since the 1950s

The point is people act like taxes are crippling them as individuals and crippling the economy at large when we have prove that economies have thrived with much higher taxes.

Effective tax rates have remained pretty constant.

Should I be pissed off?

only if you are an idiot. SS/Medicare is a tax. They sell it as social insurance but current revenues go to current recipients.

Here's a question, why in the blue frick is the government entitled to my bonus?

Bonuses are given for a job well done. I received my bonus check this year and between the feds and state, i only received 64% of what my actual bonus was.

What fricking right, does the government have, to feel entitled to my success?

16th amendment

They needed an amendment b.c the constitution clearly prohibits income taxes.

1913 was a fricking shitty year for freedom. Not only 16th amendment but also the federal reserve act.

Taxes are crippling us when the government is spending almost 100% of our GDP, and asking for MORE! Why do you believe the government should get more taxes? What has the federal fricking government done to prove to you that they will handle that tax money responsibly?

Giving more taxes to the feds is the EXACT same as locking an alcoholic up in a bar.

Yeah, i know the actual reason why the government takes my money. But the fact that good work is punished, hell anything you do that promotes the economy, is punished, is absolutely absurd. Every time i get a bonus i'm excited at first, that i got a bonus, then it turns to anger when i see the theft by our fraud of a fricking government.
