Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but is anyone watching the 121212 Hurricane Sandy Relief concert on AMC? Seems like all of Americas celebrities have gathered under one roof to help raise money for the affected areas which is great and I am not belittling their efforts.
But was anything even remotely done on such a scale for Katrina and the Gulf Coast. Only celebrities I can think of are Brad Pitt and Anjelina Jolie that came out to help Katrina. I am sure there were more, but I can't think of anybody else at this time. But just look at tonight's lineup - Bon Jovi, Ben Stiller, Whoppi Goldberg, Kristen Stewart, Chelsea Clinton, Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Jon Stewart, Roger Waters, Paul McCartney...the list goes on.
Is the difference between the reactions to Sandy and Katrina because this was New Jersey and New York vs. the Gulf Coast?

It is absurd to complain about the way we were treated after Katrina.
This bitching is like another type of class envy. Some people always have to be a freaking victim.

There was a pretty big concert fundraiser all over national tv after Katrina.
I think the national charity $$$ was bigger during Katrina.
Sandy just hit a more populated and more media central area, so they are getting lots of love right now, but the media coverage was nothing compared to Katrina.

This. It was called "From the Big Apple to the Big Easy" and dave Matthews headlined with other bands. I can't remember who else played though.

Don't forget Sean Penn. I'm sure the difference is that most of these people are already in NYC anyway. So it's not like their going that much out of their way. But still, glad to see it.

I don't care about what the celebrities do at all. What irks me at the moment is the paucity, or actual overt denial by the media in reporting the news from the regions most affected by the storm. Where the F is the criticism of FEMA which still has not shown up in the area in a truly meaningful manner six weeks after the strom? Oh, I forgot that Oboe was in charge and it doesn't matter at all that people are still without power, water, and all of those silly essentials of life. Yesterday I heard that the trailers are still in Pennsylvania stockpiled.

And the sad thing about it is that those fools probably voted for him.
I for one never blamed Bush. But you can be sure the same people in NJ/NY who voted for Obama were critical of his W's "handling" of Katrina.
And of course, the media is obvious. So why bother.
