One of the most annoying about RG3 vs Luck is how the media acts like they are polar opposites. Andrew Luck is NOT a pocket passer His ratio of plays inside vs outside the pocket is much closer to RG3 or Big Ben than it is to Peyton Manning or Phillip Rivers

Cam and locker have not been spectacular.
Locker has shown flashes, and Newton has had spectacular games. I probably shouldn't have used "spectacular" in the OP.

You think RGIII is more polished than the leagues pocket passers? And Kaep whoever that is?
My wording was poor. I meant that the current crop of mobile quarterbacks are more polished passers than what you would see from the "scramblers" earlier in the decade. They tended to be projects as far as passing went. During the 4 full seasons that Vick played in ATL, he only averaged 166 passing yards per game.

Quarterbacks who run regularly are going to get hurt......period. Also will have shorter careers. Doug Flutie and Fran Tarkington are the only ones I know that are the exception. Give me a pure pocket passer every time.
You're dumber than a goddamn bag of hammers. 1. There is nothing preventing a QB with speed from picking apart defenses from the pocket. 2. But there is something preventing a guy who can't run from picking up that first down when said pocket collapses.

Why isn't Tannehill in this conversation? He was a receiver in college....

What do you mean by polished? RG3 has a cannon for an arm, he's very accurate, and they haven't invented a throw he can't make. He runs quite a bit, but a large chunk of those are designed runs. Michael Vick, he is not.

I agree with this. The only dual threat QB that may be able to pull off a career as a duel threat is Cam. I think this because of his size. Being bigger I think he will be able to take more hits than the smaller QB.

What is so funny? Are they not dual threat quarterbacks utilized with design rushing plays?

Was Young really a "dual threat" though? He could run when he needed to but never had more than 76 rushing attempts in a single season. I fact he only reached 60 attempts 5 times in a 15 year career. Cam rushed for a 126 attempts last season and this year he has 104 and counting. Griffin has 112 rushing attempts and counting Wilson has 69 rushing attempts Vick had 57 attempts prior to injury Gabbert has 18 this year after 48 last seaon Locker has 25 rushes in 8 games Luck has 49 rushes Tannehill has 33 Young was more like an Rodgers who by standards today is not considered a "scrambler" but someone who avoids to rush and runs when he needs to. Since taking over starting job Rodgers has run the ball at least 50 times a season with a high of 64 the season they won the Superbowl. Oh and all the people saying running QB's break down. Randall Cunningham played till he was 38. ALthough as he got older he ran the ball less and less from his career high of 118 at 27.

Yeah, he was a dual threat. If it was third and long and none of his receivers were open, he's gonna take off and use his legs to get the first down. I don't have any USFL clips to pull up, but I would venture to guess they would show a very scramble-happy Steve Young. I think RG3 will be very similar to Young by his third year in the league. He'll still be able to run, but he'll only do it when he absolutely needs to.

First and foremost, I said off the top of my head. Second, I named popular names that are starting or that have started recently. You could also throw Vince Young in with that quarterback category.

Please post the proof. Luck's average pass travels 10 yards downfield, highest in the league. You don't get that average outside the pocket. There are great throwing QBs who can scramble when the pocket collapses. Rodgers, Steve Young, Luck, Rothlisberger etc. These win championships. Then there are QBs who have actual run plays designed for them who utilize their threat to run to help set up their passing. Vick, RG3, Cam, Russ Wilson. These don't win championships
