Xmas gift for a deckhand (knife) (Posted on 12/12/12 at 9:29 pm)
My brother in law is a deckhand / boat mechanic for a ferry service in the Gulf. Family Christmas gift hint is that since he started the job (1 year ago), he blows through knifes and pocket knifes (as in wearing them out). I'm wondering if any of you guys have suggestions on just what a deckhand could use in terms of a quality knife. I don't think he is a multi-tool guy. I'd say $50 is price range, but let me know if there is something a little more that is worth it.
It is really great because the blade will not rust in the salty environments and if he is a deckhand then he will probably have to cut through lines and the serrated blade is perfect for that and it is sharp as hell. Really can not recommend this knife enough.

I worked as a deckhand for almost a year, and, like Woadie said, serrated blades is where it's at. They cut through rope much better than straight blades.
