The North Korean Nuclear Threat

Lets say that North Korea can fix a nuclear warhead on a rocket within the next three months, which is I'd say pretty reasonable. What harm can one nuke do?

Tell me if I'm off here and why.

North Korea decides to take out Seoul.

Or, how about sells one to Iran who is willing to pay out the arse and NK needs the cash, and then Iran takes out Israel and drags the world to hell with it.

Or how about this for starters? North Korea sends another "Science Experiment" into space and it turns out to be an EMP over the US, and sends us back to the Bronze Age in a matter of seconds, the likes of which would take generations to recover fully. Then they prance right into the south and have their way without America's intervening because clearly we will have our hands full trying to feed ourselves and make sure we don't kill each other off in the process. Meanwhile, Israel is invaded or worse, and who's to stand in the middle east's way? The standing armies of Europe, those willing to come to their aid and not partake in the invasion themselves. This keeping in mind that Israel is also nuclear capable and the oil in the Middle East is at stake here, which means the world's economic stability.

Sorry if I sound like an alarmist, but I think the buzzer is going off, and we might want to take notice.

If anything NK sent our way could actually make it, it would be shot down. No one is going to mistake it as friendly. Now SK and Japan? Yeah, this new leader is insane as shite and will definitely try to instigate a war. It could be even worse if this is compounded with an Iran-Israel war at the same time.

Shot down? From space? With what, and where when it explodes just inside the atmosphere for example?

Depends on the yield. I have not been in the nuke industry in over a decade but if I had to bet whatever they can produce is relatively small.

That being said, I doubt there is any way they could get close to launching a nuke without us destroying it on the launch pad.

That's the only hope we would have I'd have to imagine.

All kinds of fail here. One detonation would take out a city at most. And there's lots of debate as to the level of damage. Uncharged circuits may be spared.

NK won't come after us. SK maybe.

how about sells one to Iran

While not likely this could be catastrophic.

Really?

I'm pretty sure the curvature of the earth determines the effected areas of an EMP. Maybe I'm wrong though.

North Korea isn't a threat to anyone. They're like China's bratty little brother being an a-hole just because they know they can hide behind their big brother. China won't let them do anything too stupid.

Not much to worry about, our military installations and bases are protected with special equipment to not be affecte by an emp. We would missle the shite out of Iran and north korea

re: The North Korean Nuclear Threat
An "irrational" nuclear North Korea is no threat, but an "irrational" nuclear Iran is enough of a threat to murder millions of innocent people. You've got to love it

It only has so much "reach," depending on the size of the explosion. In this case, it's a bomb not even designed to be an EMP.

I'm more concerned with the infrastructure in the states and how that would implode considering our dependence on it and transportation for our very survival.

I have said for years that we need to wipe this country off the map

Would be doing a service to the world ridding this country of inhumane murderous tyrants, and doing North Korean citizens a favor by putting them out of their misery. Death is preferable to what North Koreans have to go through

Well yeah people would go crazy but we could stop North Korea and Iran with out troops, plus all our destroyers and aircraft carriers in the oceans would be plenty. Now the home front would be a mess

All I know is you take away full bellies and deprive people of water and base necessities and you won't recognize them or their behavior. If this were to have happened in the 60s it would not be as bad is if it happened today simple because of technology and our dependence upon it for survival. When natural disasters devastate an area, we simply pull power from elsewhere and resupply transformers and the like from elsewhere, but when the whole place goes black, it's another story entirely. I don't think we can quite fathom everything that would go bad in such a scenario, which is why I have to think our military would be sent home to deal with the mass civil unrest of 314 million people in hysteria.

Why? What is the plan after the initial launch? What is the objective?

re: The North Korean Nuclear Threat
North Korea has always wanted to take over South Korea and become one unified country. That is North Korea's end game.
