Say I hit a deer, wound it inside the city limits, is it against the law to shoot it to put out of its misery? Heard conflicting stories.

Prob best to contact LDWF and notify them. Don't need a game warden pulling up to you standing over a deer with a gun

Cop told me most cops would give you a mulligan for this if no pedestrians were around. Humane thing to do he said.

I think this is the right answer, would take an arse of a LEO to do otherwise, but they do exsist

Most cities it is illegal to shoot a firearm. That's the law. A good cop would probably use his common sense and give you a pass. A prick cop could arrest you, or, use that as a time to assert his authority and give you a lecture.

I learned from my dad at a young age to carry a knife, for this reason.
That said, my dad hit 8 deer with his first truck he ever had, he still has that truck. :CSB:
