You can't play/register until the reboot, which is sometime in 2013. It's in alpha right now I believe

The game has become extremely fun, it's very much playable. I haven't played the new product, but from everything I've heard, they have fixed so much about the game it's just awesome.
They aren't focusing on grinding like they use to btw, and while I loved grinding in xi.. :cough: yeah, ok :cough: what they are doing in the re-boot sounds amazing.

sadly, it was more of a chore than anyone wanted it to be, but they fixed that a good bit. and I can't really talk about anything else from alpha because of a NDA, but they really REALLY made leveling a lot better this time around.

When this game is finally going to release, I will probably create a thread about it, with my name on the game, server, etc. so everyone can join us on the server when it comes time.

This has been said about each Final Fantasy release since the Internet has become popular. Seriously, X-2 is the death of the franchise. Now FF XII is horrible, Square has lost their way. FF XIII is too linear and was delayed too much.
Final Fantasy has a very divisive fanbase and you can people like a game in the same series and then the next, people have polar opposite views. Despite this, each game is incredibly popular.

From everything I've heard, it has less system resources needed to run than the original game, looks better, and has 0 lag compared to past Eastern MMOs.

Against my better judgment, I'll probably end up getting this game as long as I can play for a couple hours a night and get something done and not have to devote 10 hours to it.
ETA - What servers were yall on for the FFXI players? Sylph here.

Yeah, this game, though it can have time syncs in it.. doesn't force them on you like XI did. Gone are the days of searching for a party for 5 hours, or having to schedule "events" throughout the week "from 7 to 12 for dynamis"
