Have you ever heard of buying insurance and saving for your own retirement, I know that's a novel idea but people did it for hundreds of years, and there was no fricking health insurance.

This is happening in our area also. For a number of years there has been a general trend towards outsourcing full-time IT type jobs but now even those jobs are becoming part-time positions.

double payroll taxes? payroll taxes are set by how much u make, doesn't matter how many jobs you have. 6.2% for SS and 1.35% for medicare (2% SS holiday expires at 1st jan, so 4.2% SS now)
employer pays the same

unless you are talking about the extra paperwork the accounting department has to do then that is minimal with software
if you had 100 guys making $8/hr working 40 hrs a week or if you have 200 guys making $8/hr working 20 hrs a week, you pay the same payroll taxes for both groups
what u save on is is not having to pay to insurance "tax" on those 100 guys....
