One show that I used to enjoy when it first came out was Ax Men. It was a descent show the first couple of seasons because it was real and showed what loggers really went through. Now, I can't even watch the previews or commercials for it because it is so damn obvious that everything is staged.

Sorry, Virginia, that "rare prototype worth $1500" was one of about 50 stuffed in a box under a desk at the Clear Channel offices while douchebag was still employed there.
He was probably trying to put them on eBay the second that show aired.

I only saw one episode where the older guy had this silver hard hat from a rig. He took it to be appraised and the appraiser told him they were really rare. The old guy was like "I can't sell this! It's going in my private collection"
My husband said they're more than common. Any oil guy who has worked in Indonesia has them and they're totally worthless.

I started thinking something was up when Jarrod's main wingman left the show saying he couldn't take it anymore. I will say the show did a decent job of mixing in busts with wins - how many times did Barry think he may have something valuable only to find out it's worth little to nothing?
Also, regarding Dave, I found the vast majority of his big ticket "winning" lockers were chock full of industrial-type equipment: vending machines, restaurant equipment, industrial HVAC units, etc. Hardly seems like producers would "salt" a locker with those type of items. A lot if times Dave wouldn't even have a big ticket item - he would just come out on top because of the sheer volume of items in the locker.
Certainly I think some element of the show is staged but at least they make it plausible. Shows that are so outrageously staged like Storage Hunters, Hardcore Pawn, and Lizard Lick Towing are made unwatchable.
