Yet another distinction for our wonderful city....... Forbes List

But help is on the way, with the EPA now forcing the Big Cajun II coal plant to make long awaited pollution upgrades. Sperling Air Quality Index: 29 Sperling Water Quality Index: 27

Big Cajun II isn't even in Baton Rouge. It's way up river north of New Roads. And the EPA is pretty much shutting them down, not forcing them to make upgrades. No way they can afford the massive fine they've already incurred. Help is on the way... my ass. Houston and other industrial centers are on the list, too BTW.

Its funny that the list coincides with my list of places I don't really want to visit. Except BR and Louisville.

I guess you have to have industry to have pollution, hence the reason Detroit is noticeably absent from that list.

NOLA doesn't have nearly as much of this:

The entire area between Baton Rouge and New Orleans is pretty "dirty". Consider it a good thing. More industry, more manufacturing, and more jobs are on the way. It's helped the region weather the recession better than others. New Orleans has more service and tourism based jobs as well, which doesn't pollute very much.

I lived in Louisville the past 4 years and found it to be very habitable. I guess things like Ohio River and being in the Ohio River Valley make pollution a problem but not so much you'd notice.

Not nearly as bad as Akron, but here is a view from our Capital Building:

Yet 800,000 people live in the metro area for some reason. Houston is on this list. How many people live in that area?

Why do they have a coal fired power plant in the middle of all that natural gas?

I'm not arguing that fact. I really don't give a shite about the pollution (I live in Lafayette now anyway). Just pointing it out.....

Good question. We ship our cleaner natural gas up north, they ship their nasty coal down here for us to choke on. One of those Cajun power plants is a natural gas unit, I believe.
