| OT Travelers. What Kind of Luggage do you use for long trips? (Posted on 12/12/12 at 8:12 am)
I have been using a huge 5,000 something cubic inch duffel that i can check and carry anything and everything i could possibly pack and then a carry on . But my stuff is always russled, and i'm thinking about getting a hard sided case, any suggestions.

I've got a system down. I never carry more than 2-3 days worth of clothes. I always wash clothes while there. I can get most of my gear in a backpack or a small luggage bag depending on the type of shoes I need.

well yeah, i mean i just carry on if i'm going somewhere for 2-4 days, but i'm talking if i'm going for a week i like to have a really big carry on. i want a hard sided but i can't tell if i buy a mid priced one if it's gonna be a piece of shite or should i just go ahead and get a tumi? last thing i want is to arrive at the baggage claim and it be broken.

We have Briggs and Riley. Shopped all around, kinda considered that really expensive one that starts with a T (name?), but found that for the cost the quality is great with B&R. Also bought last years model off Amazon and saved about $400. eta- they're not hard sided though, so nvmd if that's what you're looking for

Duffel bags are a bad idea because you have to carry them around and everything gets scrunched. I just take a suitcase with a carry on tote for long trips like this: And for short trips I'll take a small carry on. ETA: It is a samsonite

My servants take care of the luggage, so I don't know.

I would spend the money on Tumi (try marshalls or TJ maxx.

Burton Wheelie Cargo. It rolls on skateboard wheels, has detachable compartments, a wet compartment and straps to tie down a skateboard. Yes, I normally fly with a skateboard.

I guess if you are strong enough to carry it then it could work. I went to Europe with a huge one and a regular suitcase one time. My plan was to put the duffle on top of the suitcase and roll it. I still couldn't handle it by myself though. Worst idea ever. I try to pack as lightly as possibly normally, because I hate not being able to handle my bags.

Seriously though. I have this Tumi Tech: I also occasionally use an internal frame backpack if I know I'm going to have to walk a long distance, i.e. when I went to New York City on the cheap and took the train from JFK to Times Square to meet a friend.

I usually just place my ironed clothes in a secure location in a plastic wrapper. Depending on what time I travel to, I can always find it in good condition. The real problem is that I can't control the jump location, so I have to make sure I'm not wearing ridiculous clothing that won't match the time I jump to. I tell you, the one time I ended up in the middle of a Oklahoma in a gun fight wearing a wet suit and riding a motorcycle almost cost me my job.

Briggs and Reilly expensive but have a lifetime manufacturer warranty as well as a lifetime airline damage warranty. They will fix it for free or provide you a new suitcase
