As it has been stated many times on this board, California more than pays their way. They subsidies La, Ms and Al et.al. Their financial problems are theirs. Their business environment has created more world class corps than any state - and we all have benefitted greatly from it. You should be grateful they put up with our mooching asses.

Austin is great. if every state had one city like Austin with same ideals and demographics, while the rest of the US states operated like the rest of Texas, this country would be a well oiled machine.
The Austin liberal utopia's are few and far between, and more often a burden to the taxpayer. The ideals and demographics are slightly more complex as well.

I grew up in texass, and the state - in particular houston and dallas are just fricking atrocious places. Not an ounce of uniqueness to them, and quite boring. Plus all the woman look plastic, and the gov't is authoritarian. I would rather live just about anywhere else in the country over texass.

Tim is the guy that will drink mainstream beer his whole life, and never get into the true unique glory of great microbrews. Tim is the guy who prefers a chain restaurant to a place filled with creativity and people unique to a certain area. Tim is the guy who wants the entire world to turn into a strip mall of Longhorn Steahouses, Applebees, Lowe's, and Wal-Marts. The saddest part is he is drawing his beliefs from a lifetime of living in a certain reality, he's never ventured to the other side to see if it has anything to offer.
