My Dad is 57 and plays BLOPS2 all the time. It really the most communication we have with each other. My uncle the same thing. They just got into it about 3 years ago. It's no different than watching t.v. for 2 hours after work.

Ya, I'm mad. Let's roll back to 2000. Good year. I was in highschool, people still had PCs, brother was only 20 years old.
I'd rather go back to about 2004, 2005. RTCW: Enemy Territory LAN parties. Get 10-12 people together (or more if possible) and LAN it up with lots of booze and ownage.

When everyone over 40 dies? I'm tired of the negative connotation associated with video games. You can tell someone that you just met that you play and they'll give you a snide look or some shite and it's aggravating. I don't see where the negative association comes from.
Because adults that play games heavily tend to be extremely awkward and antisocial?

I am the solar opposite. You are just speaking up the stereotypes but it's really not the norm. The average age of gamers is 30 years old. I promise you the majority of them have respectable careers, are responsible, and are more socially outgoing than your closed mind thinks.

Not awkward at all, but I am anti social. Never have had problem with women, they just tend to get on my nerves after the "newness" wears off and I boot them.

I was halfway joking with you guys because someone else pointed this thread out to me. In my experience the only people that have been legitimately weird were the ones that were into the big online games. I'm sure there are people into those that are normal too, but the couple that I've known were extremely inverted and odd.

I know quite a few guys who game often when their wife and children are asleep. I know one guy who likes to troll the frick out of kids with crossbows and hawks while his family rest. That guy is fricking awesome.

You will find that the majority of VOCAL gamers who get attenton are in two categories: young / high school age & 25+ neck beard anti social cheeto stained finger guys. The rest of us who have respectable careers and families and are perfectly social people fly under the radar. You never hear of the 33 year old father of 2 homeowner happily married man who played FC3 for 13 hours a day that went ape shite and killed people to make wallets out of them. Why? Because it would never happen because he's a well adjusted person. Hell, I'm in oil and gas sales, got married a year and a half ago, expecting our little girl in May and just bought our first house. Does that sound like a stereotypical gamer to you? Well i play games on average 2-3 hours a day instead of watching TV. I also play the more "hardcore" games like Mass Effect, Borderlands, some MMOs when they strike my fancy. I love RPGs. I'm sure there are tons more people who have similar stories to mine on this board and abroad. Gaming is a legit hobby in my opinion. It is something you like to do that takes up your free time. How is that any different than carpentry, wrenching on vehicles, hunting, fishing, art, music or (especially this) movies/tv? I know someone who all he does on his free time is watch movies and TV series. but he thinks gaming is weird. How great is that?

Stout is right. There no longer is a typical gamer. I own my own business, have a family, nice home, 3 cars and I am very social. I've spent more than one evening at the Governor's Mansion talking about Borderlands with the Governor. Ok, I made that part up.

That's my point. Most people have some balance in their lives.

Not anymore I have nights where I'll play a few hours but most days I either don't log in at all or play maybe a half hour or so when I get home from work and spend the rest of the night with the fam

I have a friend like this. He says he doesn't play games cause he likes to go outside and have a life. All he really does is watch tv which is fine, but it means he is full of it. I have never lived with anyone that gamed before so I hope when I have kids they play

exactly and it should be said that it is a relatively inexpensive hobby compared to others at that. gaming is a great way to unwind after work and just chill. it's what I do most weeknights and I'm not gonna change anytime soon. also surprised no one has come in here and posted this:

I am sure as society progresses they will. People use to be against all sorts of things. Liquor, Rock and Roll music, books. All were eventually accepted and are now main stream in society today.

Haven't read all the posts here, but these are just my 2 cents. I've been playing games since I was a child on gameboy, nintendo and super nintendo. 27 now. Games in general are way more socially acceptable than they were back then and it will continue to grow. Hell, nerdy things in general are more socially acceptable. Just look at how well things like Harry Potter, LotR, and comic book movies do these days. Games have a negative stigma attached to them because of the anti social unemployed basement dweller that does nothing but plays games and never sees the sun. Aside from that fading negative image, I think people realize games can actually be healthy. Look at games like Zelda and God of War. Awesome action games that enhance Critical thinking skills with puzzles in addition to the mindless action. Gaming is also a very cheap hobby when you compare the Amount of money spent for the amount of entertainment gained. Most of the people on this board play CoD games. 60 bucks a a year for hundreds of hours of enjoyment.
