re: Worst LSU coach in history?

There is no doubt Curley Hallman is the worse coach in LSU history. The root of the real problem here was Joe Dean. As an earlier poster pointed out there were so many people preoccupied with keeping their little perks with the LSU athletic dept (and Im including the Board of Supervisors here) they named a shoe salesman/good ole LSU boy to run the sophisticated and complex multi-million dollar LSU athletic dept. Talk about someone who was in over his head (Dean) and had no clue.

Are you sure about this? I seem to remember being upset at Saban because he waited so long to announce his leaving and Spurrier was already over at South Carolina

Wannstedt quit the Dolphins around the first week of November, in 2004.

South Carolina did not go to a bowl in 2004, so they were able to announce Spurrier as coach on November 23 of that year. It was only around this time that Saban even started to be mentioned for the Dolphins job.

If I remember correctly, for the latter half of that season, there was some speculation that Dolphins interim coach Jim Bates might get the permanent job.

There was no opportunity for Saban to announce he was leaving, in time for us to get Spurrier before South Carolina did.

From Hallman's Wikipedia page:
quote:

From 2004 to 2007, he served as head coach at Muscle Shoals High School in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. His first season at Muscle Shoals resulted in a 3–7 record. At the conclusion of the 2007 regular season, the Muscle Shoals Trojans had compiled another dismal 4–6 record, their fourth straight losing season under Hallman. On January 14, 2008, the Muscle Shoals Board of Education accepted Hallman's resignation as head coach. He was replaced by Cordova High School's former head coach Scott Basden.

Ouch.
