thats awesome. not really for her, but still. one would think she would have figured out she wasnt understanding the material before getting all the way to the final.

You're bragging about TOPS when you just got a D in undergrad. Too funny. Quit blaming other people for your shortcomings. Spend more time studying and less time complaining.

Getting a D isn't the end of the world, it's how you react that will determine your success later. I've gotten one D (spanish 2 at 8am) while in college and that was freshman year while I was pledging a fraternity. Just admit to yourself that you could have studied more, and go to class. That D was a wakeup call for me and I haven't gotten another and don't plan on it. Retake the class, study harder and let it be a turning point. Good luck.

I took Econ in school because all my friends were business majors and thought I had an easy major. I made a B without much effort. YOU NEED TO STUDY MORE AND STOP THINKING YOU ARE ENTITLED TO SOMETHING.

Boo hoo. I had a class where 60% of your grade came from the final.

I agree Katayama is very reasonable and grades fairly. He did not replace any grades this semester nor did he let us argue points, but he did curve the grade a lot. The OP more than likely received the grade he or she deserved and rightfully deserves a backlash for calling out a decent professor. I am not sure why this had to turn into a majors debate. I am sure you are just generalizing, but it isn't right to lump the OP in as the representative for the rest of us. I am going to cry in a corner now!

all i remeber about my upper level econ was that the grading curve was so big that I made a 35% in the class, and made a C. I remember the teacher saying at the end of the semester, that out of the 40 people in the class, only 2 people had over a 50%. cant remember his name, he was an ass

I almost dropped my first Econ because I thought I was going to get a C. Then the 32 pt curve came in and I made a 107, highest grade in the class.

Jesus.. the fact that a 32-point curve was rendered speaks volumes about that teacher's ability.

I never went to Katayama's class and still pulled a B. ECON 2035 is simply not that difficult, and it isn't hard to find old exams online to practice tests beforehand.

The only reason I started this thread was because there was a thread titled "I passed!!!!" That had recently been started so I wanted to do a spinoff and see what happened. It sure did deliver. That's for sure.

I know where you're coming from. At OSU 8 out of 10 of my classes have been taught by foreign grad students. Only the classes in my major have all been Americans. It's a pain in the arse to have to correct your damn instructor on graphs and math. It truly feels as if I'm paying for a 3rd world education. Cheap sons of bitches.

The quality of education students receive at most universities is in no way worthy of the amount of money they spend. Don't expect to learn much of value. Just buckle down and get that piece of paper so your resume can pass through that computer program used by your company's HR department to sort through resumes.

i figured we'd get a little more than 2 points as a curve. the aggravating thing isnt that we didnt get a big enough curve as much as the fact that we didnt have homework all semester. 10-15 percent of my grade wouldve been a 100 had we been assigned some homework.
midterm and a final is all you should ever expect.
