IMHO, their suits are low quality for the price and as others stated, do not let them tailor the suit if you get one.

once or twice a year, Dillard's has a really good suit sale. They are not "high end" suits, but decent quality and fit.

Like someone said, go to Perlis. You can get 2 decent suits for that price (250-400 a piece) and lifetime alterations.

This is a good suggestion actually. I plan to purchase a couple Perlis suits in the near future.

As to the OP, I've never purchased from JoB but have only heard poor things: from materials, poor salesmanship, etc. to fit, only "old man cut" suits, etc.

To answer your question on tailoring, a good tailor will charge at least $100-125 to tailor an entire suit (jacket and pants) to your liking. So tack that on to anything you purchase off the rack anywhere if you want it to fit nicely.

The Stein Mart suggestion is actually money. I've purchased at least two suits (Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren) from there for less than $200 and had them tailored locally for around $100 and they fit great.

So you're going to pay 110 for each suit (4 for 450)then another 120 to get tailored? Am I reading that right?

exactly. mine cost me 360 overall and i think it sucks a fat dick. I would have easily dropped another 100 for something that fit perfectly and could be altered in house by master tailors, not some korean bitch in the mall.

Go to their website. Every dress shirt is $100 on sale. Every suit is $1600. If you get a sale, great but their shite is expensive. And yes, their stuff is nice.

I have always been told when buying off the rack stuff or cheap suits from jos a bank, make sure the shoulders fit good with the seam ending in the proper place and most other things can be tailored by a good tailor. Not the alteration place with the Asian chicks.

just because i set the price of a piece of shite at $1000 doesn't mean it's worth that. It just means it's $1000 worth of shite.

A suit "off the rack" will never fit like a suit that is built for you. Never, no matter how great the tailor, it just isn't possible. However, the style of suit can help. As I have stated I hate suits with ridiculous amounts of shoulder padding. ALL of JAB suits I have see have this. I had the tailor take some out and I still think it's too bulky.

Perlis does free alterations for-ev-ver

So you don't pay a tailor fee at all. They have 2-3 guys there that have been doing it for decades. Ask for Edwin Eley he's the best

How much is a suit made by Perlis? Affordable?

They have every thing from affordable to baller stuff.

Like I said the free alterations skim some savings off the back end.

I bought 2 this summer, one traditional gray suit and another linen suit for the summer and spent about $900 total. One was $350 and the other was $450 and they fit like a glove

Any idea when they usually run these sales? I recently started having to wear a suit everyday to work, and fell for the JAB deals, being that I was going to quantity over quality since I did not really have any suits to begin with. I hate wearing them now because of how they fit, but I just spent a good but of money on them, I'm going to get some use out of them. I couldn't just start from scratch buying 6-8 suites @ $400/each.

I bought two Calvin Klein suits for $150 each from K&G that fit/feel so much better.

Now that I got a starter set a suits, I'd like to add in better quality ones and start phasing out the JAB suits, maybe around $250-$300. Any one has good suggestions that haven't been listed yet?

I like Perlis.

Another place that I have recently discovered is Rubenstein's. I work right down the street, but didn't walk in until about a month ago. Salesmen there know what they are talking about. I bought a few custom shirts and a charcoal suit. Suit fit really well off the rack, and had minor tailoring done. Also realized one arm is 3/4" shorter than the other, exlpaining why shirts never fit, and one sleeve stuck out more than the other on suits/jackets. The suit ran about $400 on sale. I think their sale is still going on. They do a lot of bespoke stuff if you have the money. But I find their off the rack stuff is of good quality too.

If you are looking for a good tailor, I like the one in Place St. Charles. Not the cheapest guy, but knows what he is doing. I looked around for a while and am pleased.

I buy 2 for $250 from men's warehouse. They are good enough. I don't wear suits to work, FWIW

I bought a Traveler Tailored Fit from Jos A Bank and brought it to a seamstress in the mall because I needed it done within a week. Cost like 35 or so to get an inch taken out the waist/back of the suit and to get them hemmed.

If you want a nice looking fitted suit, go check out Zara. They have some really nice looking stuff for men.

re: Does anyone here buy Jos A Bank suits then get them tailored independently?

I have 10 suits. 4 are from Bank, 2 from Jeff's, 1 Macy's, 1 Dillards, 2 Perlis.

The 2 Perlis are my least favorite. One of them has just not held up well, and has gotten a bunch of tiny holes in, not from moths, but little snags. The other is black, which I don't wear much. They fit ok, but are a little short in the legs, b/c that's how they do it at Perlis.

The Macy's and Dillards suits I've had for nearly 10 years and are really the most durable and comfortable. They fit well too. Dillard is a RL. Still wear them both.

The 4 Bank suits, one is seersucker and one is a summer weight tan with no lining in the jacket. Those two are awesome. Fit well, very comfortable and stupid cheap. $95 each. Each will last about 3-4 years. (second time for each. first ones lasted 3-4). The other two Bank suits are old, and don't fit too well anymore. The only really problem I've ever had with them is that their crotches are ridiculously high. They always drop it, but it's never enough. My very heavy balls wear them out.

The two Jeff's are the nicest and best fitting of them all. No they are not cheesy. yes, they have a few things in their store that do not scream cheese.

Brooks Bros has the best shirts. I've shopped suits there, but don;t like them and they're stupid expensive. For $600 you can do a lot better.
