My Mom's Dad was a total dirt bag. He remarried an even worse lady who wouldn't let any of the grand kids inside of their house. We saw them rarely when we were in town. He gave me a half used pack of copy paper and my brother (who was 15 at the time) a broken little kids fishing pole.
He showed up at a Christmas party another time and gave all of the grandkids $6 in an envelope. He forgot to give my 8 year old cousin an envelope and when he asked about it, he accused my Uncle of stealing the $6 from his own son. Lol I have no idea how my mom came from this P.O.S.

a beige colored plain women's sweatshirt, forget the brand but it was scratched out on the tag with a black marker so she thought I wouldn't be able to tell it was a woman's sweatshirt.
I was a 15 yr old boy. From a crazy cheap aunt.

Strategy guide for the sequel to the computer game Myst. I think it was probably 5 years after it had come out and my aunt just grabbed it off a bargain rack. This was the year after she bought me a nice hardcover set of the LOTR trilogy.

When I was in elementary school (mid to late 70s), we'd actually draw fellow students' names and get a present for them.
Back then, NERF footballs were the thing to get at these parties. That was the present you wanted.
I gave a Nerf football and ended up getting a harmonica in return.

one year my father gave me a pocket knife that I had bought myself as a child. he actually wrapped it up and gave it to me as a gift. And I fricking saved my money to buy it when I was like 10. And that was my only gift.
It was really odd. as normally he drops $300-400 on me, and I am an adult. But that year I think pissed him off somehow.

My grandpa got me a baby blue sweatsuit one year. It was by some Hip/Hop company like Big Sean or something. I was like 12. My mom returned it.

I think everyone has one of those weird aunts or uncles that always comes up with the weirdest shite... My aunt (dad's sister) is notorious for this. A few years ago she gave me and my sister matching sweatshirts with a picture of an actual tiger on them. She thought we would like this as LSU fans. I fricking threw it away when I got home.
It was a plain white sweatshirt with a pic like this on the front:

I just quit going. I don't enjoy being around the fam enough to make it worth spending the time, energy, money, and effort in getting gifts to get back some socks, a stupid Mugsy Bogues book, ugly non-stylish sweater, and a Arkansas t-shirt.
I usually get pretty good thoughtful gifts, I like to get handmade things, antiques that look really cool and are useful. Even when my dad would ask what I wanted or needed, I'd give them some really specific things like a certain tool, something school related like a nice hard bound thesaurus, and always ended up with a swing and a miss.
I don't even know why Adults give gifts. Just get some fun stuff for the kids and buy me some booze.
