Any conservatives concerned with growing wealth discrepancy?

I am a good old fashioned middle of the road democrat. While most of my fiscal views lean right; I believe the gov't can do great things when spending is curtailed towards the proper avenues. I believe we get a great ROI on some spending and other times it's a black hole into nothingness.

My question is simple. Is the growing gap in wealth any reason for concern? Those that have it wish to preserve and build it. At what point do we realize that the tipping point is near?

Although I often struggle with my beliefs there is no convincing me that the free market, unobstructed and deregulated, will take care of itself.

Please give your insights on if this growing disparity of wealth is a concern to you or not. Why or why not?

So what's your solution? Violent theft?

Find a way to tax wealth versus income and this will go away.

I don't know the solution. I would love to hear ideas from both sides. Seems that unions were a sufficient fix at one time. I'm not exactly in favor of unions for public employees but I see them as a balancing force of good for private entities.

Yes. That's why I think we need MASSIVE social welfare program reform.

People have no incentive to develop skills if they are not in the top quartile of intelligence and work ethic. Being on assistance is far too lucrative.

Well, you've already said that you will never be convinced that a true free market is the answer, so I don't know what to say.

You obviously support some sort of government action (that will necessarily include the threat and/or use of violence to achieve its goals).

I'd argue for a free market, where no violence or coercion is necessary. But I'm also a crazy kook, so keep that in mind.

Yes, I'm concerned because this was all created by fking lawyers making laws to enrich themselves or their friends.
Lower middle class which is the environment I grew up on is going extinct.

The unions are what destroyed manufacturing in this country.

Did you ever think that government policies, taxes and hand outs are killing the incentive for people to work when they'd rather be poor and get more for nothing?
Add that with a lazy youth workforce and you have the real reason for a dying middle class. The rich are rich because they work and use their brains to better themselves while the poor bitch, piss & moan and hold their hand out rather than work/use their strengths to get out of their situation.

Look at the root of the problem and you'll find the real reason.

First tell me why I should worry about how much money my fellow countryman has?

How does it affect me when Warren Buffet has managed to accumulate billions in a system that anyone could achieve the same in theory?

If everyone's wealth is growing up then what is the problem? If you stifle the growth only at the top, you see the effect of stiffing everyone's wealth, including the ones you are trying to help.

Government "help" usually ends up hurting everyone. Less intervention the better. Of course certain checks need to be in place, like anti-monopolies, price fixing, out in out theft, insider trading, ect.

I'm with you, I don't care about what others have. I just see a big gap where it didn't exist before and it concerns me regarding the viability of the nation. We are going to become has beens through socialism, and that might be ok- life for the europeans doesn't suck like it does for the average chinese.

Hmmm, I've never had that experience. I know exactly what my beliefs are and have never struggled with any of them.
I don't give a shite about rich/poor gap. I think seeing people who make bad decisions lie on the street corners dying would be a great teaching tool for children.

the key is how to handle bad actors in the market. Government's solution is regulation, but that doesn't solve much and restricts movement within markets. I have no problem with gaps in wealth, however, too much wealth is being created through non-productive and unethical means.

Nope. Wealth is not finite. Those without wealth are perfectly capable of obtaining wealth. Just because you have a rich person, doesn't mean that there must always be a poor person. People's station in life is their own fault. And until "middle of the road democrats" realize that you are responsible to yourself and your family and no one else, then you will always want "justice" for those without, by stealing from those with.

Of course I do - but income taxes strike at people actually working, while the wealthy, by and large, are immune from these changes. If the goal is to reduce "wealth disparity", then find a way to institute a wealth tax, and replace the income tax with it.

That way, the better you do, the more you pay, rather than "the harder you work, the more you pay", which seems counter-intuitive to me.

Personally, I don't buy into the class warfare - tax policy should first and foremost, balance federal revenue with sustainable growth in the GDP. All federal spending should be aggressively analyzed and viewed as a necessary evil.

How many times and how often do you tax wealth? Do you just annually come in and take a certain percentage of people's stuff until they don't have more than their neighbors?
