| 1908 National Champions (Posted on 12/11/12 at 7:38 am)
Just curious, but why doesn't LSU acknowledge this title? Only 2 teams were awarded Titles. LSU who went 10-0 and outscored their opponents 442-11 Pennsylvania went 11-0-1. Their tie came against Carlisle Indian School. Sure it's a split title, but so is 2003 and no one has a problem claiming it. Pretty obvious who the best team in 1908 was even without the split title. I mean, c'mon Carlisle Indian School?

What does that have to do with anything? I don't remember asking a question about Alabama.

I dont get this one either. We should claim this one for sure. PS I "heard" that you could actually pay players back then and some of the players werent actually students. I have no idea if true or not.

Cool story. I sure hope a few dick's don't feel like that about the '03 title in a few decades.

Led by some guy named Jim Thorpe. Maybe you've heard of him.

Carlisle Indian School was good back then. Pop Warner was the coach and I think Jim Thorpe was on the team in that time frame.

Care to explain? What's pathetic about claiming a Title that you were awarded?

I didn't think people would focus so much on Carlisle Indian School. The point of the thread is that LSU was awarded a National Title in 1908 and it's not acknowledged. Seems strange. Not sure why everyone's focusing on the Carlisle Indian School bit, just a random fact I threw in there. Was meant to be humorous in the same way a loss to Sewanee looks a lot worse in retrospect than it really was.

This question comes up every so often around here. If you are serious, I would contact the athletic department and LSU to see if you can get some information.
