I had a $102 billion surplus without making any hard decisions.

Until we address our banking system and money creation mechanism, there is really no real point in talking about the debt.

A++ post, great contribution.

$200b surplus while keeping the Bush tax cuts, and there's plenty of stuff that can be cut that isn't even listed.

He has a point. The nominal rates on long-term US treasury bonds are negative. The Federal Reserve has purchased nearly $2T in long-term bonds in the 4 years. With them pushing those interest rates down it makes it easier for the government to borrow/spend.

I'm just saying. Dropping the interest rates on long term T-bonds makes it much easier to borrow and spend. If they didn't do that, the Federal Government wouldn't be able to pay for the interest on the debt soon and would be forced to cut.

The debt will never be paid off. Ever. Unless the government does some shady accounting, the deficit will increase every year.

Do people actually think there is a chance that the federal government will ever stop spending like crazy? That has no chance of happening. Zero. It doesn't matter who you vote for or who you try to convince your neighbor to vote for. It's not going to happen. Ever.

I got to a 380B deficit without touching a single military benefit. I decided not to play with the raising taxes feature since we all know that never produces as much revenue as predicted and would throw off the rest of the math.

I'll avoid discussing whether this is actually true or not and instead ask, what do you think the negative affect of our credit being downgraded in light of the fact that the interest on our debt is at record lows and we can borrow money very cheaply?
