I just reject this out of hand. First off - the numbers don't make any sense.
80 is the bottom edge of "dull" - below that you have the borderline intellectual functioning and mental retardation ranges.
SO, the consequences of this (these are "number" thingies, so I'm not sure my feeble conservative brain can process them) are clear. For every genius (140 IQ) watching Fox news, there must be someone with a 20 IQ OR 2 people with 50s OR 3 people with 60s, OR 4 people with 65s, OR 5 people with 68s, etc. to make that average out.
This is just more propoganda and an attack on Fox. They are the top dog in the television cable news segment and they are an easy target.

It does sound Onion-esque. The "Intelligence Institute" sounds pretty bunk. But I still don't see where it's a hoax though?

Because it can't be true. Come on - you and I agree on little but you can't be this dense?
If it was something reasonable, like 3 to 5 points below the average, say, CNN viewer (because I'm convinced that MSNBC viewers cannot be more intelligent than Fox News - at least not appreciably) - I might have bought it. But 20? No, because that means that for every average person watching Fox News (100 IQ), then a 60 is watching.
That was the point and joke they were trying to make, but like the clown said, "If it bends - that's funny, but if it breaks - that ain't funny."

I'm going to appeal to your ability to crically think rather than just show you a link. You really think foxnews ( the most watched cable news station) has an AVERAGE viewer that is near retardation? You think people that have trouble tieing their shoes are watching news stations? C'mon man.
